The 18th Annual Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as ARIA Music Awards) were held on October 17, 2004 at the Sydney Superdomemarker within the Sydney Olympic Complex. The ceremony was hosted by Rove McManus and produced by his production company Roving Enterprises for Network Ten of Australia. Rove and his team attempted to make the event more appealing to a wider audience by broadcasting for the first time on a Sunday night, creating more of an illusion of a live audience and delegating some of the more "boring" awards to an earlier un-broadcast event. The changes certainly worked, with a peak of almost 2 million viewers across Australia, as well as a domination of the 16-39 demographic where they scored a huge 50.8% of viewers.

The following list includes the winners highlighted in bold, and the nominations below them.

Performers

The following artists all performed on stage during the 2004 ARIA Awards:

Hall of Fame inductees

The original members of the Little River Band were inducted into to ARIA Hall of Fame. Due to controversy over the right to use their original name (another band member held the trademark) they performed and received the award under the name The Classic Lineup of the Little River Band or The Little River Band - Classic Lineup (nobody actually seemed to care).
