Archis Tiku (born 6 May, 1977 in Bombaymarker, Indiamarker) is a founding member and bass guitarist of British indie rock band Maxïmo Park.

Biography

Born to Kashmiri Pandit parents, Archis moved to the UK with his family when he was one year old. He grew up in Wiganmarker and attended Bolton Schoolmarker. In 1995 he moved to Newcastle upon Tynemarker to study medicine at Newcastle Universitymarker.

Whilst in halls, Archis formed a band with three other friends, one of whom was Duncan Lloyd. Finding themselves with too many guitarists and no bass guitarist, Archis stepped into the breach.

Not content with completing his studies and working as a local doctor, Archis continued to appear with Duncan in various pub bands over the next few years, which ended in a fortuitous meeting with Lukas Wooller, current keyboard player of Maxïmo Park.Archis Tiku was the original shared lead singer (along with Duncan Lloyd) of Maxïmo Park, but never had any intention of being their frontman.

When Paul Smith was discovered by the then-girlfriend of drummer Tom English in a pub, while he was singing along to Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", Archis turned his full concentration to playing bass.
