The Automotive Hall of Fame (AHOF) is a hall of fame for notable figures in the development of the automobile industry.

History

Charles King founded the Automotive Old Timers (AOT) Association in 1939, which became the AHOF.

A permanent museum was built at Midland, Michiganmarker, United Statesmarker in 1971 on the grounds of Northwood University (formerly Northwood Institute) and the facility was open for 25 years.

To increase exposure and attendance, the board voted to relocate closer to Detroit, Michiganmarker, the Motor City. A new, 25,000 ft² building was constructed after the snow melted in 1997 at Dearborn, Michiganmarker to house the museum, which was intended to be an Educational Resource in addition to being a tourist attraction. Interactive exhibits are used extensively to both entertain and inform.

A Black tie grand opening celebration was held on August 16, 1997, televised by the Auto Channel. The site is close to the Henry Ford Museummarker and Greenfield Village.
