BBC World News America is a current affairs news program produced by BBC News to be shown initially for Americanmarker audiences. The program is shown daily in its full hour format on BBC America and BBC World News, and for the first half hour on BBC News channel in the UK.

Similarities with sister program World News Today (which is shown at 6 different timeslots) are that similar titles are used but with differing musical accompaniments.

Matt Frei, the BBC's Washington, DC, Correspondent for 5 years, hosts the program from the BBC's Washington DCmarker studios together with acting Washington, DC, correspondent Katty Kay, Philippa Thomas, James Coomarasamy, Rajesh Mirchandani and Laura Trevelyan

During Friday telecasts, the program is hosted by Katty Kay. Scott Simon is a relief host for the program.

Rome Hartman is currently the Executive Producer; he was previously the executive producer of CBS Evening News.

  • On BBC World News: 00:00-01:00 UKT (same as 7:00 pm ET, 07:00 in Phil./HK when summer)

Special broadcasts

For some instance, this program has been cut off on its hour broadcast to few snippets because of a breaking news broadcast (e.g.: 2007 Karachi bombing). But in the case of the 2008 US Election primaries & caucus, the program has been extended to 3 hours (e.g.: 2008 Iowa Caucus) and even up to 6 hours (e.g.: 2008 Super Tuesday) and only being presented by one host. BBC World News America also covered the three presidential and the only vice-presidential debates.

  • Some American TV critics had criticized the program for following "the British way" although the program is more focused in the Americas, but Hartman stated that they value both sets of viewers since it was being shown worldwide.
