Bagh District is one of the
eight districts of Azad Jammu and
Kashmir
, Pakistan
. The
district, which had been part of
Poonch District, was created in 1988.
The
district is bounded by Muzaffarabad District to the north,
with Poonch district to the south, and with Poonch District of the Indian-administered
Jammu and
Kashmir
to the east and is bounded to Punjab
in the west. The total area of the district
is 1,368 square kilometers.
Bagh district is linked to Muzaffarabad
by two roads, one via Sudhan
Gali (80 km) and the other through Kohala (97 km). It is situated
46 km from Rawalakot
. The district is well known for its
confectionery and bakery products.

The total population of the district according to the 1998 census
was 395,000 which is estimated to have increased to 434,000 in
2003, with an annual growth rate of 2%. The principal clans are the
Maldiyal Mughal,
Douli Mughal,
Sudhan,
Awan ,
Gujjars and
Muslim Rajputs (
Jarral,
Junhal,
Minhas,
Narma,
Sulehria),
Mankas, Domaal, Bhawpal & Mangdal, biradaries).
Administration
It comes under the
Kashmir section
which is part of the greater dispute between India and Pakistan.
The district is divided into 4
tehsils:
- Bagh
- Dhirkot

- Havaily:Havaili is a new district of
Azad Kashmir.It contains beautiful sights.
There are many interesting places like LAS DANNA,MEHMOOD
GALI,FORWARD KAHUTTA,HILLAN,CHANGAL,SOLI,JABBI SYEDAN.jABBI SYEDAN
is the most educated village of AZAD KASHMIR where literacy rate is
100%.Mostly SYEDS are living there.A student syed Muhammad Shahid
Ali Bukhari S/O Syed Ghulam Ahmed Bukhari of this village has gone
to Cuba for higher studies of Medical.Also Taskeen Ahmed Rathor has
gone for medical studies in Cuba
A beautiful valey 8 KM away from bagh city and now a sub division
of bagh district.
2005 earthquake
The city
of Bagh
like other
areas of the district was heavily damaged in the 2005 Kashmir earthquake. 60
percent of the buildings collapsed. Thousand of people died and
many more were homeless. This was the worst earthquake of 21st
century
Etymology
The word Bagh (باغ) comes from
Persian and means garden. It is used in
many toponyms such as the
Kara-bagh
(Black Garden) and
Chaharbagh
(Four Garden).

- Mallot a town 17 km away from
Bagh city, like much of the district it was
badly affected by the 2005 earthquake.
- Sesar

- Bees Bagla - one of places where a
majority of people are Narma Rajpooth.
- Sudhan Gali village - located at
2134 near the Ganga Choti mountains in
bagh district - was also badly affected by the earthquake and was
one the areas that UNICEF target for relief
efforts.
- Munasa
- a village
which is 11 km from Kohala going toward Dhirkot. It is
a beautiful place with good views of river Jehlam, Muzzafarabad,
Ayubia, Bourbon, and Murree etc.
- Rehra Rera village is located about
10 km from Bagh. It is a beautiful town located between two
streams: seri kathi Mahal and Dullahi Mahal.
- Forward Kahuta Forward Kahuta is
near border with India.It is the new Tehsil of District Haveili. It
is the business centre for District Haveili. It is central to Other
villages like Gugdar, Pallangi, Hotar, Bandi Chakyas, Hillan,jabbi
syedan,soli
Las Danna
From Bagh, a 15 kilometres long metalled road leads to Las Danna
which is a place of captivating scenes and natural beauty. From
Lasdanna, three roads branch off the main road i.e. Mahmood
gali-Palangi, Haji pir- Aliabad and Abbasspur- Hajira respectively.
A tourist rest house is available here for accommodation. Neelabut
is also very beautiful place may Pakistani people visit neelabut
but facility is not available in neelabut our government som
(badword) budget spend neelabut.
