Francis Money-Coutts,
5th Baron Latymer
Baron Latymer is a title in the
Peerage of England. It was created by
writ in 1432 when
George Nevill was
summoned to Parliament. He was the fifth son of
Ralph de Neville, 1st
Earl of Westmorland. Lord Latymer's great-grandson, the third
Baron, married as his third wife
Catherine Parr, who later became the wife of
King Henry VIII. He was
succeeded by his son from his second marriage, the fourth Baron. On
the latter's death in 1577 the title fell into
abeyance among his four daughters.
This
Nevill branch built much of Snape Castle
, part of the Middleham Castle
network of Wensleydale.
It remained in abeyance until 1913, when the abeyance was
terminated in favour of Francis Money-Coutts, who became the fifth
Baron. He was the only son of the Reverend James Drummond Money and
his wife Clara Maria Burdett, fourth daughter of
Sir Francis Burdett, 5th
Baronet, and claimed the peerage as a descendant of Frances,
eldest daughter of the Hon. Lucy Nevill, third daughter of the
fourth Baron Latymer. As of 2009, the title is held by the fifth
Baron's great-great-grandson, the ninth Baron, who succeeded his
father in 2003.
