Beach 36th Street, sometimes referred as
Beach 36th Street – Edgemere, is a
station on the
IND Rockaway Line of the
New York City Subway.
The layout of the
station is similar to Beach 44th
Street
, having no closed exits, and with the full time
fare control in the middle of the platforms.
Beach 36th Street – Edgemere station, was originally built as a
Long Island Rail Road station
and a trolley stop of the
Ocean
Electric Railway, which was elevated and relocated 600 feet
east of its former location in August 1940.
The elevated station
was opened on April 10, 1942 but closed on October 3, 1955 along
with other stations along the Far Rockaway Branch west of Far Rockaway
, and converted into a subway station for the IND
Rockaway Line on June 28, 1956.
