History

The magazine originated in 1994 as a supplement to Artforum. Originally published biannually, the magazine became quarterly in 1998 and then in 2005 became published five times a year. Bookforum is composed largely of book reviews, which vary in length from pages to a paragraph; interviews with authors of fiction and nonfiction books; and essays and articles (many of which are tied to a recently published book). Its editor in chief was Eric Banks from 2003 to 2008. At the start of 2008 the magazine underwent editorial reorganisation Albert Mobilio, the former fiction editor, is now a co-editor along with Chris Lehmann.

Recently the magazine’s website has undergone a major redesign, adding a new section that lists literary events natiowide, as well as web-only "Daily Reviews," and a section called "Syllabi," which consists of book lists submitted by authors and critics.
