Boothstown is a small town on the boundary between the metropolitan districts of Salfordmarker and Wiganmarker, in Greater Manchestermarker, Englandmarker.

Once known for its mining community, Boothstown is now a mainly residential area, popular due to its classic smalltown charm. It lies northwest of Salfordmarker, northwest of Manchestermarker and southeast of Wiganmarker.

In the local area: to the west is Astleymarker, to the north is Walkdenmarker, to the east is Worsleymarker with an important transport interchange between the M60marker, M62 & M602 motorways.

To the north of Boothstown is the East Lancashire Road (A580), which links Manchestermarker to Liverpoolmarker.

There is currently a proposal being made about the possibility of having a racecourse built at the south of Boothstown running through to Worsley.


In 1947, workmen digging in Boothstown at discovered a hoard of over 550 bronze Roman coins dating between 259 AD and 278 AD.

Notable people

Boothstown is also home to ex-Holby City star Ian Aspinall (character Mubbs Hussain) and Coronation Street's[85012] Tyrone Dobbs[85013] (Alan Halsall[85014]). The Charlatans front man Tim Burgess [85015]grew up on Linkfield Drive in Boothstown. Amongst previous residents is former Manchester United footballer Eric Cantona , who lived on Vicars Hall gardens for a short period immediately after the famous 'Kung-Fu kick' incident at Selhurst Park.
