History

Bread of Life Ministries was founded in November 1982 by Pastor Conde. Pastor Conde originally wanted to start a half-way house for prostitutes in Olongapo Citymarker, where the U.S.marker Naval Base Subic Baymarker was located. After several prayer gatherings, Pastor Conde, together with 12 members, felt compelled to start a new church in Loyola Heights, Quezon Citymarker. The Catholic school, Marynoll College (now Miriam Collegemarker), offered its auditorium to launch the first service of the church on November 14, 1982.

From a gathering of 120 members in Maryknoll College, weekly attendance steadily increased to a thousand prompting the church to move to the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City. In 1984, church gatherings transferred to Celebrity Sports Plaza on Capitol Hills, Quezon City to accommodate another 1,200 members. On April 5, 1987, the church moved again to Circle Theatre with around 1,800 to 2,000 members attending each of the five services. With church attendance swelling, Bread of Life began building its own ministry center, Crossroad77 located in Mother Ignacia Avenue, Quezon City. In November 29, 1998, Bread of Life dedicated Crossroad77 and weekly attendance averaged 2,500 each service. The rapid growth of the church can be attributed to the personal care of new members and neighborhood small groups presided by trained leaders.

Prayer Activities

Bread of Life holds several prayer events such as: Dawnwatch, a daily morning prayer intercession held in its Ministry Center in Crossroad 77 from 5:00am to 5:45 am; Mountain Soar, where people belonging to different Christian evangelical denominations gather once a month at the Touch of Glory Prayer Mountain, its prayer facility located in Antipolo City; Power Station, BOL's 24-hour prayer chain patterned after the dedicated prayer chains of South Korea; and Wide Awake (formerly called Overnight Watch), a once-a-month whole-night of prayer intercession and sharing of testimonies also held in Crossroad 77.

Controversy

In November 2004, Bread of Life Ministries released an article "Misplaced priorities can mislead a nation" under the column "Kingdom of a Higher World", noting how a girl named Faye Nicole B. San Juan was ignored by the Philippine Embassy in spite of winning an international science quiz in Australia. This news proved to be a hoax and Bread of Life Ministries issued a public apology after the church's careful investigation, thus canceling the whole column.
