Breaks Interstate Park, also referred as the "Grand Canyon of the South", is one of two interstate parks in the United Statesmarker, located in southeastern Kentuckymarker and southwestern Virginiamarker at the terminus of Pine Mountain . The park's size is 4,500 acres (18 kmĀ²). The Breaks is the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi River, through which the Russell Fork River and Clinchfield Railroad (now the CSX Transportation Kingsport Subdivision) run. It is accessed via Virginia State Route 80, between Haysi, Virginiamarker and Elkhorn City, Kentuckymarker, and passes through the community of Breaks, Virginiamarker east of the park.
