Bruyères is a town in
France
. It is the centre of a commune in the Vosges
département, and also the main
town in its canton. The town built up
around a castle built on a hill in the locality in the 6th century.
It was the birthplace of
Jean
Lurçat, in 1892.
History
In the
Second World War, it was
liberated from German occupation by
Japanese-American soldiers of the
442nd Regimental Combat
Team.the Battle of Bruyeres and the rescue of the lost Texas
Battalion is considered now as ONE of the TEN Major Batle in the US
Military History. The 100th/442nd Regiment became the most
decorated Unit in the History of the US Army (8 Presidential Unit
Citation, 21 Medal of Honor and 18,143 individual decorations. A
Peace and freedom trail with 89 stops is marked inside the city
through the path of the 442nd RCT created by Pierre Moulin and
inaugurated on July 8 & 9, 1989 for the bicentennial of the
presentation of the Bill of Human rights by Mounier.See

It is also the title of No. 5 in French composer Claude Debussy's
