district represents a part of eastern San Bernardino
County
, with Redlands
the primary metropolitan area. Its seat in
the
United States
House of Representatives is currently held by Republican
Jerry Lewis, ranking
Republican member of the
House Appropriations
Committee.
Historic boundaries
San Diego's 41st
In the
1980s, the 41st District was one of four that divided San
Diego
. The North San Diego
County
district had been held for twelve years by Republican Bill Lowery and
was considered the most Republican district in the San Diego
area. The District was renumbered as after the
1990 census.
The Inland Empire's 41st
The new
district is the eastern region of the Greater Los Angeles Area known as
the Inland
Empire
. The local Congressman from Redlands
, Jerry Lewis, has been in office since 1979.
Redlands became the primary city in the district because
Congressman Lewis lives in Redlands. Other cities include Yucaipa,
Victorville, Barstow, and Highland.
