Callum Jones Rebecchi is a
fictional character on the
Australian soap opera
Neighbours. He is portrayed by
child actor Morgan Baker. He made his
first appearance on episode 5471, introduced to
Toadie Rebecchi (portrayed by
Ryan Moloney) by
Stephanie Scully (
Carla Bonner) as someone with whom Toadie can
spend time.
Background
Callum comes from a complicated family life, where his "addict
mother" left him when he was six years old, and he never met his
father. He has been under the care of his elderly grandmother,
however she is finding it difficult to cope with his
hyperactivity. He is described as smart,
sharp, funny, cunning and clever. He is drawn to people with
similar qualities of his own, hence his relationship with Toadie,
and is after stability in his life and affection.
The
character of Callum was originally supposed to be an Indonesian child called Dia who Toadie adopted
from an orphanage in Indonesia
. However, when Executive Producer
Susan Bower took over the show she decided that
this storyline would be too complicated. It was scrapped, and
instead the character of Callum was introduced .
Storylines
Callum was first introduced when Steph introduced him to Toadie,
who was depressed after losing a chance at adopting an
East Timorese child. He quickly bonded with
Callum after they both realised they had an interest in
wrestling (of which Toadie has a history). When
Toadie went to take Callum home, they found his grandmother
unconscious in the backyard of Callum's home. Due to his
grandmother's condition, Toadie invited Callum to live with
him.
When Toadie had to work one day, he left Callum in the care of
neighbour
Susan Kinski (
Jackie Woodburne). When she and Callum went
for a walk in a park, Callum managed to disappear from Susan's
sight, and while looking for him, Susan, who suffers from
multiple sclerosis, suffered a relapse of
her condition, and collapsed in the park. He later showed up at the
hospital where Susan was sent after being found in the park. When
Susan commented that she lost her
mobile
phone, Callum owned up and returned it to her, unaware to her
that Callum had stolen it from her. Callum later began to trick
Toadie into letting him stay home from school by faking to be sick.
While at the General Store, he found
Sienna Cammeniti's (
Erin McNaught)
iPod, and
tried to steal it, however Sienna managed to catch him in the act.
He lied to her and Toadie and said that he was just looking at her
playlist. Later, while playing
football with Steph and Toadie, Steph
dropped her mobile phone, and Callum sneakily picked it up and put
it in his pocket. Callum later got caught out for stealing when
Steph's mobile rang in Callum's bag, and when Toadie found it, he
also finds other mobiles and electrical devices. Callum explained
that he needed to steal the items in order to make money, as he
thought he'd had to fend for himself due to no one taking care of
him. Toadie explained to him that he would take care of him, though
Callum didn't believe him. They later went to return everything
that was stolen to the rightful owners.
Bushfire
Callum
went along with the majority of the Ramsay Street
residents to the bushland clean up. While
running around,
Daniel
Fitzgerald cut down a tree that narrowly missed landing on
Callum, due to Dan pushing Callum out of the way. During the clean
up, a
bushfire started, leaving everyone to
be evacuated from the bush. Callum left the bush without harm,
though later became the subject of suspicion when Steph found a
lighter in Callum's jacket. Steph's
boyfriend Jay believed that Callum may have started the fire,
though when Steph asked him about it, Callum denied ever even
seeing it. Steph passed her theory onto Toadie, suggesting that it
was a cry for help, though he got angry at her for even suggesting
it. Jay later started a fire on Callum's shed that Toadie and
Callum had only just painted, intending to frame Callum. The fire
was found by Dan, and Toadie believed that Callum had started it,
though Callum denied it, with Toadie still thinking that he lied.
Jay suggested to Toadie that Callum should take part in a Fire
& Intervention Awareness program. Toadie took him to the
program, though they ruled Callum out as likely to commit
arson (it was later revealed that Jay was the
arsonist).
Nicola
Toadie's friend
Nicola West (
Imogen Bailey) moved into Number 30 recently
after being kicked out of Number 26 by her family. This resulted in
Callum becoming attracted to Nicola, resulting in Callum looking at
pictures of Nicola on her laptop. He was caught at school with the
pictures by his teacher
Kelly Katsis
, leading to Kelly speaking to
Toadie and Dan about his behaviour. Soon she would address Human
Services about Toadie's custody of Callum, believing that Callum's
inattention at school is due to Toadie taking care of Callum
wrongly.
For a time, Callum has was taken away to live
with distant family in Ballarat
, whom he
hardly knows. After a few days he felt home sick and was on
hunger strike. He was constantly phoning Toadie but not answering,
so Toadie thought he was a prank caller until
Rebecca Napier answered the phone and
realised Callum was on the other end. Callum's aunt decided to
contact Toadie after this and decided to give Toadie a chance to
have Callum again, however now Toadie is Callum's legal guardian.
When
Guy Sykes returned to the show he
threatened to come after Callum if
Zeke
Kinski doesn't give him his 20,000 dollars Guy torments Callum
by walking very slow in front of him Guy enters the
Rebecchi-Fitzgerald home and takes Toadie and Callum hostage.
Fortunately, Toadie thwarts Sykes' evil plan with a cricket bat and
all is well.
Bob
Callum and Toadie were both heartbroken when it was revealed that
their beloved Bob the dog had
cancer and had
to be put down. At first Toadie refused to accept Steve's diagnosis
of
cancer and was insistent that he was going
to get a second opinion on the matter. Eventually after talking to
friends and his neighbours, Toadie decided not to do this and
accepted Steve's diagnosis and Bob was put to sleep.
After a few months Toadie decided to surprise Callum with a puppy
following the sad demise of their beloved 'Bob'. At first Callum
didn't seem so thrilled but he eventually took to the puppy naming
it Rocky after the
WWE wrestler
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Callum and Sophie orginally had a less than friendly relationship.
When Sophie came to the street, he teased her for wearing the fairy
wings her mum had made for her and was reluctant to chat or play
with her. After a while of being forced to be together, Callum
forms a crush on Sophie. He later uses Rocky as a way to get closer
to her. We see them playing with the puppy and at
Bridget Napier's funeral, holding
hands.
