Carl Schultz Is a Director, who was born on September 19th, 1939, in Budapest. He left Hungarymarker during the uprising of 1956 with his brother Otto Schultz. They fled to England; after arriving in London, they moved to Manchester. Carl and Otto were given the opportunity to go to Australia, but, as Otto had started his own tailoring business in Manchestermarker, and was due to marry, he decided to stay in England. In 1958, Carl took the brave step, and he emigrated to Australia by himself, where he worked for Australian TV, first as cameraman, and then as director.

In 1978, he directed his first feature film, Blue Fin, starring Hardy Kruger. His more notable film credits include: Careful He Might Hear You, winner of 8 AFI Australian Film Institute Awards awards, including Best Director and Best Film; ‘Travelling North’, with Leo McKern; and ‘The Seventh Sign’, starring Demi Moore and Jurgen Prochnow.

Early life

Carl Schultz (Karoly Schultz) was born in Budapest, Hungary, on 19th September, 1939, youngest son of Gyula Schulcz and Jolan Prepost. Youngest child Carl had one brother, Otto; and a sister, Ilona. He had a happy childhood in rural Hungary, enjoying his childhood with his brother and sister. His father fought in both the World Wars, returning to his wife and family, and continuing with his tailoring business.
