Carole Simpson (born December 7, 1940) is a broadcast journalist, news anchor, and author


Simpson, a graduate of the University of Michiganmarker, began her career on radio at WCFL in Chicago, Illinoismarker. She moved to television at Chicago's WMAQ and onto NBC News in 1974, becoming the first African American woman to anchor a major network newscast. She joined ABC News in 1982, and the anchor of the Sunday edition of World News Tonight from 1988 until October 2003.

Simpson was the moderator of the second presidential debate held between George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Ross Perot, at Richmond, Virginiamarker in 1992.

Simpson is currently the Leader-In-Residence in the Journalism Department of Emerson Collegemarker.
