She went on to represent her country in the 1992 Miss Universe pageant held in Bangkok, Thailandmarker in May 1992, and was the apparent winner after placing first during the preliminary competition and winning the evening and swimsuit competition events on finals night.

Her sudden and unexpected cut from the final 3 startled those who followed her around the world. The 1992 Miss Universe crown was ultimately won by the contestant who came second after her during the preliminaries, Michelle McLean, who became the first Namibianmarker to attain the title.

Ironically, Namibia's McLean and two other semi-finalists, Lisa de Montalk of New Zealand and Anke van Dermeersch of Belgium, had competed at the 1991 Miss World pageant won by Carolina Izsák's runner-up in the Miss Venezuela pageant: Ninibeth Leal.
