Charles Edward Wiggins (December 3, 1927 - March 2, 2000) was a U.S. Representative from Californiamarker. He was initially elected to California's 25th congressional district. The district was renumbered as California's 39th congressional district prior to the 1974 election.

Biography

Born in El Monte, Californiamarker, Wiggins attended the public schools in El Monte, Californiamarker.B.S., University of Southern Californiamarker, Los Angeles, Californiamarker, 1953.LL.B., University of Southern Californiamarker, Los Angeles. California, 1956.He was in the United States Army,1945-1948 and 1950-1952.He was a lawyer in private practice.He served as member of the El Monte Planning Commission, El Monte, Californiamarker from 1954 to 1960.Councilman, El Monte, Californiamarker from 1960 to 1964.He served as mayor of El Monte, Californiamarker from 1964 to 1966.

He was a fierce defender of Richard M. Nixon until the latter's resignation from the Presidency. Wiggins's advocacy for Nixon almost cost him reelection in 1974.

Wiggins was elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1967-January 3, 1979). He was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-sixth Congress in 1978. He served as a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from October 11, 1984 to March 2, 2000.

Wiggins died on March 2, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nevadamarker, and was buried in Arlington National Cemeterymarker.
