Chelsea Embankment is part of the Thames Embankmentmarker, a road and walkway along the north bank of the River Thames in central Londonmarker, Englandmarker.

The western end of Chelsea Embankment, including a stretch of Cheyne Walkmarker, is in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelseamarker; the eastern end, including Grosvenor Road and Millbankmarker, is in the City of Westminstermarker. Beneath the road lies the main low-level interceptor sewer taking waste water from west London eastwards towards Becktonmarker.

Chelsea Bridgemarker and Albert Bridge are to the south. Royal Hospital Chelseamarker is to the north. Sloane Squaremarker is the closest tube station, located to the north.

From 19 February 2007 this road is on the boundary of the extended London Congestion Charge Zone.

History

The embankment was completed in 1874 to a design by Joseph Bazalgette, and was part of the Metropolitan Board of Works' grand scheme to provide London with a modern sewage system.
