Cher ( ) is an administrative department located in the centre of Francemarker. It is named after the Cher Rivermarker.

History

Cher is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from part of the former province of Berry.

Geography

The department is part of the current administrative region of Centre marker. It is surrounded by the departments of Indremarker, Loir-et-Chermarker, Loiretmarker, Nièvremarker, Alliermarker, and Creusemarker.

Demographics

The inhabitants of the department are called Berrichons from the former province of Berry.

Politics

The President of the General Council is Alain Rafesthain of the Socialist Partymarker.
