CipSoft GmbH, or
CIP, is a video
game developer based in Regensburg, Germany
most notable for the online
roleplaying game Tibia. They also market
Tibia Micro Edition, a
cell-phone-based version of the game.
In late 2006, with the launch of their new website, CipSoft
reported 27 people working actively. CipSoft also moved its offices
in early 2006 because of the company wishing to expand and are
currently hiring new employees.
Tibia
Tibia was created in 1997 as a result of a student project that
eventually became a large MMORPG. The base itself is similar to
others of its genre but has very basic graphics, 2D and not even
one sound. They started with a single server and almost not even
one soul entered the game because it was not very popular in that
time
The game is based in a
medieval environment
where mythical creatures such as
demons roam
through the land. Players may also complete quests for certain
rewards of equipment, food or gold pieces. Players are allowed to
choose between four different
vocations so they can carry on their
adventures in different ways. These are Knights, Paladins, Druids
and Sorcerers.
The game itself is updated twice a year in the summer and winter
updates, where major changes are introduced; generally summer
updates create new hunting areas and cities to explore while the
winter update is more about
gameplay
changes. There is usually a few patches throughout the year, as
CipSoft realise that they can't wait for the next update and must
make important changes on the spot.
Tibia Micro Edition
In January 2002, CipSoft began to venture into
mobile gaming. They adapted the successful idea
of online role-playing games to
Java
and
Symbian OS-enabled mobile devices.
Tibia Micro Edition is
the first mobile massive multiplayer online role-playing game for
mobile phones.
After the presentation at the 2003 CeBIT
fair in
Hanover
, the game was launched May 2003 in cooperation with
T-Mobile, Germany
's largest
mobile carrier.
The Staff (Support Team)
In a previous featured article written on the main page of
tibia.com, Manina described
each department and what its importance means to the company. There
are now 28 men (including the newest member Lionet) and 9 women,
who are currently working in the CipSoft building. The biggest
department by far is the Customer Support. The customer support
department now holds 11 strong and dedicated men and women. Each
member is responsible for answering their section of questions in
which they are assigned to. Some start off the morning by answering
board reports, name reports, emails, statement reports, etc.
Many players express their dissatisfaction with the support, since
the amount of players requiring support by far outweighs the number
of people working in the department. Often players will feel
unsatisfied with the initial generic replies which are used.
The Staff (Content Team)
CM Chayenne, CM Denson Larika, CM Judigator, and CM Knightmare.
Each member comes up with a creative way to improve the way the
game is played. In the past update, CM Denson Larika focused on
revamping the old areas, but in a few ways,
The Staff (Graphics Team)
Jan and Richard are the two guys who create the monsters, draw the
areas, and everything else you see on the screen. Nothing is put on
the game until they draw it. Jan focuses on both Tibia and Tibiame.
So he's very important and busy. Jan is a master on 2d art as the
opposite with Richard, as Richard is much better with the world of
3D art.
The Staff (Programming Team)
Every code that is attached to stopping the DDoS attacks in the
game go through these guys. They also create clever and very
helpful tools for the members in the building to assist their work,
and make it easier. These men are also responsible for placing
items, monsters, etc... on the map.
The Staff (System Administrators)
These four men are the creators of the MMORPG called Tibia.. You
have, Uli (Durin), Stephan, Guido and Steve. Each serve a different
role in the office. Whether it be from handling the bills, editing
the code, to supporting Tibiame, each serve a very important role
in the company.
The Staff (Other)
First off is Craban, the product manager of CipSoft. Craban is know
for his arrogant and sarcastic approach to players, his posting on
the proposal board, and his interviews on the supported fansites.
Next is Crabans best friend, Mercutio Mercado. Mercutio is the
Marketing Manager of CipSoft, Mercutio writes press releases,
advertises, etc... He is also known for his activity on supported
fansites. CipSoft also has a secretary who handles every event that
could, will, or has already happened.
Future projects
In December 2006, CipSoft reported on their company websites Job
section that they were searching for a 3D artist. By May 2007, the
Job had disappeared. In
an
article on a supported fan site,
Stephan
Vogler, one of CipSoft's executive producers mentioned
that the 3D artist was working with Vogler to create a prototype
for a new game, unrelated to Tibia. In February 2008, the Job
section revealed that CipSoft was searching again for another 3D
artist and a programmer for a new online game.
In August 2008, Cipsoft announced the new game
Fiction Fighters. It is unknown when the
game will be released.
DDOS Attacks
In a period of 11 to 12 months Cipsoft has suffered attacks from a
large amount of DDOS attacks on their American servers. These DDOS
attacks have no effect on German servers, and Cipsoft is now
transferring several American servers to German hosts, this is
probably the best solution there was at the moment also there was
transfers from German to USA servers in order to test and solve
further problems currently it all seems stable yet in case of
further problems they will obviously solve it as soon as
possible.
