Claytown Troupe are an alternative rock band from Weston-super-Maremarker, Englandmarker.

They were formed by lead singer Christian Riou in 1984 (who claimed in an NME interview that a local clairvoyant advised him to form a band called the Clayton Troop). The Claytown Troupe by 1986 had an accomplished live show, which earned them major record label interest. Signed to Island Records by Ron Fair in 1988, he co-produced with Ralph Jezzard their debut album, Through The Veil, which reached 72 on the UK Albums Chart in October 1989.

The Claytown Troupe's concerts saw shows at the Marquee Clubmarker and the London Astoriamarker, supporting The Cult on their 'Sonic Temple' tour at venues such as the Wembley Arenamarker and the Birmingham NECmarker. Later tours included Pearl Jam, The Wonder Stuff, The Damned, Julian Cope, Jesus Jones, The Godfathers, The Mission and, at the Los Angeles Foundations Forum, with Ozzy Osbourne and Soundgarden on the bill.

Switching record labels to EMI Records in the 1990s Claytown Troupe cut their next album, Out There, with David Bianco producing at The Hit Factory, New Yorkmarker. They toured the UKmarker in 1992 with Terrorvision as support act. After parting company with EMI, drummer Andy Holte, guitarist Ben Bennett and bassist Paul Waterson made their exits. Riou and Richard Williams continued through the next two years, before Riou decided to put the band on hold, until he felt ready to play again.

By 2004, the band returned to the music industry with Riou and Williams being asked to perform to 1,500 people for the Whitby Gothic Weekend in October 2004. In 2008 Claytown Troupe teamed up with Ben Christo (Sisters Of Mercy guitarist) and played support to The Mission on their last ever tour date at the Shepherds Bush Empiremarker.

A recent support date with Spear of Destiny at the Islington Academy, Londonmarker on 11 September 2008 kept fans, old and new, still interested in their future.
