The Trip Day by Day
Arrival Day and Day 1 of the trip - Amsterdam
The coach
trip started in London
where tour
guide Brendan met the seven couples to start the trip.
Once all
had arrived the trip began its journey to Amsterdam
. During the trip the travellers introduced
themselves to each other.
During the journey through the tunnel to
Calais
Jaki provided some musical entertainment.
Their over
night stop was Bruges
, Pete and
Barbara who had never been abroad before enjoyed the food, as did
Phil who admitted he didn’t like foreign food. Vegans Rob
and Eva found finding food difficult. John got upset by people
smoking at the table. The next morning they continued on their way
to Amsterdam, as they crossed the border the coach trippers have a
half hearted attempt at singing the Dutch national anthem. The
first activity in Amsterdam was to a clog maker. Jaki decided to
wear to pair for the rest of the day. The second activity was a
trip on a canal boat. On the boat the travellers decided to have a
sing song, which upset the captain of the boat. At the days vote
John and Jaki received one vote and Rob and Eva , Marion and Phil ,
Steph and Joanne all received two votes each. These three had to
leave the group and the rest decided who would be given the yellow
card, and they decided Rob and Eva should be given yellow
card.
Day 2 - Brussels
The day
started with news that many of the travellers had spent last night
in a coffee shop experimenting with the drugs on offer, apart from
Rob and Eva who did not join the rest but spent the night at a bar,
Eva became quite ill whilst on the coach to the days destination,
Brussels
. As
they arrived in Brussels the travellers sang the Belgium National
Anthem. When they arrived in Brussels Rob and Eva confronted Pete
and Barbara over last nights vote. The first activity was a trip to
a chocolate factory. The second activity was a trip to a Belgium
Beer Brewery which the travellers did not enjoy. At the days vote
Joanne and Steph, Tom and Max and John and Jaki all received one
vote each but Rob and Eva received four votes and were given their
second yellow card, followed by a red, meaning they had to leave
the trip. Eva managed to upset one more person during the vote,
saying that John had poor personal hygiene and that he could do
with a shower.
Day 3 - Koblenz
The day started with the younger travellers, Tom, Max, Emma and
Sally, oversleeping and causing the coach to be late.
On the way to the days
destination, Koblenz
, Brendan
decided it would be useful for the travellers to learn some German
phrases. After they arrived they had a traditional German
lunch, although Phil tried to ask for
egg
and chips, but made do with a ham sandwich.
After lunch they
wandered down the bank of the Rhine
. Phil
had some interaction with some Germans, asking one charity worker
whether they were a man or woman. The rest of the travellers went
shopping for souvenirs. Before the next activity new couple Bob and
Pasquale arrived. The next activity was a tour of a castle. The
castle was on a hillside meaning a walk for the travellers, which
was testing for Steph who arrived half an hour after the others. At
the days vote Steph and Joanne, Tom and Max, Sally and Emma and
Phil and Marion all received one vote each but John and Jaki
received three votes and were given a yellow card. After dinner
they all went to dinner where Phil admitted his preconceptions
about Germans were wrong.
Day 4 - Baden-Baden
The day started with news that Marion had an abscess so had to go
and get some anti-biotics.
On the way to Baden-Baden
the travellers had to write a fairy story.
Pasquale and Bob’s story cast John as the villain, fuelling the ill
feeling between them, coming from Pasquale feeling John is
homophobic. The first activity in Baden-Baden was a lesson on how
to make Black Forest Gateaux. After seeing how it was made the
group got to taste some. The afternoon’s activity was a trip to a
spa where the travellers spent an afternoon unwinding. At a heated
vote at the end of the day Tom and Max, Pasquale and Bob and
Barbara and Pete all received one vote but John and Jaki received
four votes and were given their second yellow card, followed by a
red card, meaning they had to leave the trip. During the vote many
travellers accused John of being unfair in his behaviour towards
Pasquale and Bob, and Pete said that he had overheard John calling
Pasquale and Bob a derogatory name. John responded that this had
been said in the privacy of the toilet.
Day 5 - Munich
On the
four hour coach trip to Munich
Max and
Sally relaxed with each other, with Sally giving him a foot
massage. Pasquale felt much more at ease on the coach now
that John had left. The whole coach also sang the German national
anthem. After they had arrived on Munich the travellers went up the
Olympic Tower to see a view of the city. Although Pasquale was
disappointed that he could not see the coast as he was expecting,
Brendan explained that the nearest coastline would be in Italy!
Afterwards the coach was joined by Vander and Nicki, making Tom and
Max’s wish of new girls come true. The girls did not endear
themselves to Barbara, mistaking her for a man. The second activity
was to a marketplace where some followed a guided tour whilst
others went off on their own. Phil had a nice conversation with
German lady despite not speaking each others languages. At the end
of the afternoon they were able to watch the Glockenspiel Chimes.
At the days vote Phil and Marion received one vote but Emma and
Sally, Bob and Pasquale and Steph and Joanne all received two
meaning all thee three couples with two votes then had to leave the
group whilst the others decided who would be given the yellow card
and they chose Steph and Joanne. After receiving all of "one" vote
Pasquale vowed to get rid of Emma and Sally, calling Sally a
"poisonous dwarf."
Day 6 - Salzburg
The day started with Tom and Max complaining to Brendan about Nicki
and Vander, but Nicki may have overheard them. Joanne was also
caught breaking the hotels no smoking policy by Brendan who also
walked in on Steph in a state of undress.
The first activity in
Salzburg
was a trip to a salt mine where they had a tour of
the mine and a fun trip down a slide. The afternoon’s
activity was a Sound of Music tour around the city due to several
scenes being filmed in the city, although Steph and Joanne did not
take part. Brendan revealed that it was one of his favourite films
and took great delight in re-enacting some of the famous scenes. At
the days vote Bob and Pasquale voted for Emma and Sally, claiming
they had chosen them from a hat randomly, which is against coach
rules so they were told they must give a real reason. In total Emma
and Sally received three votes but Nicki and Vander received four
votes and were given a yellow card. Overall the vote was very
heated with different travellers saying they did not trust either
couple and left the younger travellers quite emotional. To lighten
the mood Brendan took the group to Europe’s oldest restaurant which
was holding a Mozart evening. Nicki and Vander particularly enjoyed
the evening and were moved to tears by the music.
Day 7 - Linz
The day
started with Brendan and driver Chris disagreeing over how long it
would take the coach to do the journey to Linz
. On
the journey Bob and Pasquale won a Sound of Music quiz, causing
Phil to have a sulk as he thought he should have won and that Bob
and Pasquale must have cheated. The coach arrived in Linz an hour
earlier than planned causing more discussion between Brendan and
Chris. The first activity was a cruise down the Danube. Bob was
made honorary captain and was given a chance to steer the ship.
Thee travellers enjoyed lunch on the boat. At lunch Tom tried to
make an effort with Nicki and Vander but his friend Max was not
interested in making an effort. In the afternoon they went to a
Museum of the Future. At the museum there was a competition between
Pasquale and Phil to settle the earlier dispute. The contest was on
a toy race track which used noise made by the contestants to
control the speed of the car. Pasquale won the game. Pasquale’s
prize was a virtual flight over Linz. At the days vote Phil and
Marion and Pete and Barbara each received one vote, Bob and
Pasquale received two votes but Nicki and Vander received three
votes and were given their second yellow card and a red card,
meaning they had to leave the coach, which visibly upset them.
Despite securing their exit Max had the cheek to ask Nicki on a
date! At dinner the manager of the restaurant got on so well with
Phil he laid on a special musical performance for the group.
Day 8 - Vienna
The day’s
destination was Vienna
. As
the first activity of the day was a trip to the world’s oldest zoo
the travellers played a game of animal charades and learnt the
German names for animals they would be seeing. At the zoo Pasquale
showed a unique talent of being able to talk to the different
animals. Whilst going around the zoo Pete and Barbara tried to
determine what animals other travellers were like, deciding Steph
was a penguin, Bob was a bear, Phil was a camel and Pete was a
polar bear. After lunch the travellers learnt how to make Apple
Strudel, Austria’s most famous dessert. Emma was designated helper
and Sally thought the chef fancied Emma. On the way to the
afternoons destination Steph decided to take a nap, although it was
not peaceful for the other passengers due to her snoring. The
afternoon’s stop was to a fairground where they had a go-kart race;
Phil lost again to Pasquale and blamed his go-kart. They then went
on a Vienna’s famous Ferris wheel. Steph who was scared of height’s
refused to go on, although Bob who has the same fear did make it
onto the ride. On the ride Barbara reflected on what a great time
she had been having on the coach trip, the first time she had ever
left Britain. Due to the replacement couples flight being delayed
there was only six couples at the days vote. Tom and Max received
one vote but Joanne and Steph received four votes meaning they
received their second yellow card, and a red card, meaning they had
to leave the coach. As Joanne and Steph were the last couple to
vote and their fate had been sealed they did not cast it. After the
vote the new couple arrived, elderly friends Ellen and Rose, much
to the disappointment of Tom and Max who had been hoping for more
young girls.
Day 9 - Graz
During
the long trip from Vienna to Graz
and
travellers got to know Ellen and Rose, trying out Ellen’s hobby of
sugar flower making. Before they got to Graz during lunch
Sally had an argument with Brendan over ordering food which left
Sally in tears. In Graz they visited a pumpkin seed oil mill and
saw the production of this and also tasted pumpkin schnapps and the
oil. Being told the seeds acted like Viagra some members got more
interested, especially Tom! The second activity was a Nordic walk
through vineyards with guide Christian. Some travellers did not see
the point of using the walking sticks they were given. In the
vineyards the group tried the grape except Phil who said he did not
like grapes. After new couple friends Trevor and Paul joined the
coach. The third activity is a wine tasting session at the
vineyards, being shown how to properly taste wine. At the vote Pete
and Barbara, and Bob and Pasquale received one vote each, Sally and
Emma received two votes but Phil and Marion received three and were
given a yellow card. Bob and Pasquale revealed they regretted
voting for Phil and Marion as they would have liked to have voted
for Sally and Emma but felt they couldn’t as they didn’t want to be
seen picking on the girls.
Day 10 - Ljubljana
The day started with a sweepstakes as the travellers tried to guess
where they were going.
The destination was Ljubljana
. The first activity was a guided tour
through the centre of the city. Lunch at a traditional Slovenian
restaurant proved difficult for Phil, as he did not like pasta.
Brendan arranged some vegetable soup for him but he did not eat
this either. The next trip of the day was to a stud farm to see the
famous Lipizzaner horses in a display which got mixed reviews from
the travellers. A talk by a guide afterwards left all bored; the
traveller’s behaviour upset Brendan. At the days vote Pete and
Barbara, Trevor and Paul, Sally and Emma and Max and Tom all
received one vote each but Rose and Ellen received three votes
which meant they received a yellow card. Phil went hungry again at
dinner as he did not like the fish dish on offer.
Day 11 - Venice
The day started well with the coach leaving on time on its way to
Italy. On the trip Max, whose family is from Italy, gave each
traveller an Italian name and led them in singing an Italian song.
The day's
destination was Venice
The first
activity was a guided tour of the city. For lunch the
travellers had pizza, which did not make Phil very happy. The
afternoon’s activity was a demonstration of mask making and after
this the travellers got to dress up in traditional Venetian
costumes, which Phil did not enjoy. Phil’s bad day in Venice
continued when he found out he had to pay to use the toilet. After
dressing up the next activity was a ride on the gondolas through
the canals of Venice. After the ride Pasquale found out he had been
a victim of practical joke from Paul and Trevor who had filled his
new leather bag with rubbish. At the days vote Phil and Marion,
Pete and Barbara and Ellen and Rose all received one vote each but
Paul and Trevor recovered four votes and were given a yellow
card.
Day 12 - Bologna
The day started badly for Max and Tom who had run up a large bar
bill and the hotel would not let them go until they paid it. The
boys did not have enough money so Brendan had to lend them the
rest.
The
coach then made its' way to Bologna
. The first activity of the day was a lesson
on how to make pasta at a cookery school where the travellers made
their own lunch. Max won a trophy for the best chef. Phil refused
to eat the Bolognese sauce provided by the school as he said it
would make him ill! On the coach Phil upset some other travellers
by saying there was nothing good about Italy and that he didn’t
like Italians. The second activity was a trip to a Lamborghini
museum. At the days vote Paul and Trevor and Tom and Max both
received one vote each but Phil and Marion received five votes and
were given their second yellow card and a red which meant they had
to leave the coach.
Day 13 - Orvieto
The day’s
trip was to Orvieto
and the first activity was a pizza making
lesson. Max and Sally fell out when Max interfered when
Sally was having trouble rolling their pizza. After they had made
the pizzas new couple, friends Angela and Eden, arrived. Their
lunch was the pizzas which they had just made. Angela and Eden’s
eating habits did not go down well with Bob and Pasquale. The
afternoon’s activity was wine tasting. Some travellers, including
Ellen and Rose got quite merry. At the day’s vote Pete and Barbara
received three votes but Ellen and Rose received four votes,
meaning they received their second yellow card and a red, so they
had to leave the trip. At dinner Max upset Pasquale by telling Tom
to repeat a derogatory Italian word for homosexuals to
Pasquale.
Day 14 - Rome
The day started with Brendan having to investigate complaints from
the hotel manager over the amount of noise Tom, Max, Sally and Emma
had made during the night.
The coach spent the day in Rome
and the
first activity was a tour of the Coliseum. Paul and Trevor
showed off some unique underwear based on Michelangelo’s David! At
lunch Sally caused a storm by throwing up after eating pasta topped
with almonds, which she was allergic to. Sally claimed she did not
know there were almonds on it but others said they thought she did
it to get attention. The second activity of the day was a visit to
the Trevi Fountain. As the new couple had not arrived yet to
replace Ellen and Rose there were only six couples at the days
votes, Tom and Max, Sally and Emma and Trevor and Paul all received
one vote each but Eden and Angela received three votes and were
given a yellow card.
Day 15 - Florence
The day started with some of the travellers complaining that the
hotel had lost their laundry. It was also revealed that Bob was
suffering from constipation.
The day’s trip was to Florence
. On the way there the travellers met new
couple, husband and wife Carol and Alan. It was also revealed by
Brendan that the days vote would not be done in front of other
travellers but would be anonymous. This upset Barbara and Pete but
pleased Pasquale and Bob. The first activity of the day was an art
lesson at an art studio where the travellers got to show off their
artistic talents or lack of in some cases. Angela and Eden found it
hard to take this serious though. In the second activity of the day
the travellers were given the afternoon to go shopping in Florence.
Pasquale used the time to lie to other travellers try to get them
to vote for Emma and Sally at the days vote. Tom and Max upset the
group by not getting to the meeting point at the correct time after
getting lost. At the days anonymous vote Angela and Eden received
three votes but Emma and Sally got four votes and were given a
yellow card. The result led to hostility between some travellers,
with Tom telling Pasquale that he knew he was up to something. Emma
and Sally confronted Pasquale about the vote but Pasquale denied
voting for them and said he voted for Tom and Max, whilst Bob said
they voted for Angela and Eden revealing Pasquale’s lies.
Day 16 - Pisa/Parma
The morning started with Pasquale and Bob complaining to Brendan
about the way others reacted to the vote last night, which Emma
overheard. Eden woke up in the lobby after having too much to drink
the previous night. The coach visited two towns during the day.
The first
stop was at Pisa
where the
travellers had to take pictures of themselves trying to hold up the
leaning tower. Hostilities between the travellers continued,
especially between Tom and Pasquale. Bob and Pasquale refused to
take part in the activity at Pisa.
The activity in Parma
was a visit
to a cheese factory. Tensions remained with Pasquale
complaining that Pete was a puppet master and manipulating the
younger contestants. At the days vote Eden and Angela received one
vote but Bob and Pasquale and Tom and Max both received three votes
each meaning they had to leave the circle and the others decided
who to give the yellow card to. Bob and Pasquale were quickly
chosen to receive a yellow card. Pete was so furious during the
vote whilst Bob and Pasquale were refusing to give their reasons
for their vote that he left the circle but not without shoving
Pasquale in the back of the head, Eden had already walked away
because of the arguing.
Day 17 - Lugano
The day started with news from yesterday evening- Pete and Barbara
had decided to leave the trip. Brendan also said in an interview
that they would have been red carded anyway. Eden and Angela also
revealed they were leaving the trip because of all the arguing. Bob
and Pasquale also left the coach, saying the reason was because of
the way they were treated by others. But common opinion is that he
decided to leave before giving any other travellers the pleasure of
seeing them off. However, after they left the tour Pasquale
insulted Sally by saying she had no talent.
Only four couples
remained and they went to a new country, Switzerland, where they
went to Lugano
. The
first activity was a tour of a Swiss chocolate factory; however
they had to wait as a German tour group demanded to go in first!
When they finally got in the travellers made the most of it,
enjoying a lot of free chocolate. The next part of the day was
spent relaxing at Lake Lugano where the travellers had lunch. Later
in the day Brendan revealed there would be no vote that evening and
that three new couples would be joining the trip tomorrow to
replace those left.
Day 18 - Turin
The day started with news that Alan had been taken to hospital with
a collapsed lung the night before and had emergency surgery, which
was successful. Alan and Carol had to leave the trip. After
visiting Alan Brendan returned to the trip along with two new
couples, cousins Thadie and Dorothy and friends, Nickie and
Siobhan.
The day's destination was Turin
. The
first activity of the day was a trip to see the Shroud of Turin at
the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, although only the replica
was on display. At lunch aunt and niece, Eileen and Lisa, joined
the trip. After lunch the travellers visited some of Turin fashion
shops. At the days vote Sally and Emma received one vote, Tom and
Max received two votes but Paul and Trevor received three votes and
were given their second yellow card and a red card which meant they
had to leave the trip. After the vote the travellers went onto a
restaurant and the retuned to the hotel bar. After a lot of alcohol
Eileen, Lisa, Tom, Max, Sally and Emma returned to a room where
Lisa made on impression on both boys by kissing both of them.
Day 19 - St Veran
The day started with the news that the hotel had complained about
some of the drunken antics from the night before involving Tom and
Max. Nickie and Siobhan and driver Chris also complained about
their behaviour. As they had previous warning about their behaviour
Brendan told Tom and Max they were being sent home.
As the coach left for
the days destination, St
Veran
, two new pairs were introduced, friends Winter and
Suki, and husband and wife, Brian and Renee. Unfortunately
the route the coach was taken had been closed due to heavy snow the
night before, so the driver had to turn around and just head
towards the nights hotel. Siobhan was very impressed with Chris’s
driving around the mountains. During a rest from the journey Winter
started a snowball fight. Brendan then tried to teach the
travellers a bit of French, which Thadie resisted joining in with.
At the days vote Thadie and Dorothy, Eileen and Lisa and Siobhan
and Nickie all received one vote but Emma and Sally received three
votes and received their second yellow card meaning they received a
red card, meaning the last of the original seven couples had to
leave the trip.
Day 20 - Monte Carlo
On the
way to the days destination, Monaco
, Thadie
tried to get other travellers to vote for the new couples which
would see them go as soon as possible to ensure those already on
the trips survival. However the plan was met with suspicion
from other travellers. When they arrived in Monaco they found the
weather was against them again as instead of expected nice weather
it was raining in Monaco. As a reward for cleaning out the coaches
toilets Chris the driver was able to drive the coach around the
Monaco Grand Prix race track, whilst the travellers toured round
Monaco in a tour train. Suki did not enjoy the tour and fell
asleep. At lunch two new couples arrived, friends Jane and Michelle
and mother and son Maggie and Paul. The afternoon’s activity was to
have a look around a luxury yacht. Before the vote the five couples
that had started the day planned it so that they would each give
each other one vote, leaving the two new couples to decide who
would be given a yellow card. At the days vote Brian and Renee,
Suki and Winter, Eileen and Lisa and Thadie and Dorothy all
received one vote each but Siobhan and Nickie received three votes
and were given a yellow card. After the vote the five couples
involved in the voting conspiracy met without knowledge of the
other two couples to plan who would be given a yellow card
tomorrow, however Jane and Michelle walked into the restaurant
whilst this was going on and confronted them.
Day 21 - Arles/Nimes
It appeared that after a night’s sleep that the travellers had
decided against Thadie’s plan, saying they should just vote for who
they wanted to. Siobhan and Nickie revealed their dislike for both
of the new couples which arrived yesterday. Nickie also revealed
she was suffering from something wrong with her foot, so she missed
out on the day’s trip as she was sent to see a doctor. The coach
visited two destinations during the day.
The first trip of the
day was to an amphitheatre in Arles
, where the
men put on a gladiator show for the women. Winter was the
most impressive gladiator and the girls chose him as the winner.
During the trip to Nimes Jane and Michelle complained that Thadie
had bad body odour.
In Nimes
the
travellers went to an olive grove, where they learnt about the
process of making olive oil. Chris the driver spent the time
giving his coach a well earned wash. Nickie and Siobhan were not
present so only six couples voted. Paul and Maggie received one
vote but Thadie and Dorothy received five votes and were given a
yellow card. After the vote the travellers went back to the hotel
and it was revealed that Nickie needed to go back home to rest her
injury so both her and Siobhan left the trip. They refused to eat
their last meal with the group after hearing about the days vote
(memorably referring to their travelling companions as "imbecellic
morons!") and left without saying goodbye.
Day 22 - Andorra le Ville
The day
started with a seven hour drive to Andorra
. During the drive the contestants played
games and were given some stand up comedy from Winter, which did
not go down very well, and from Brian, who went down a storm.
Dorothy did not endear herself to the other passengers by refusing
to talk to any of the other passengers and sleeping on the bus
whilst others went out for rest stops. When they arrived in Andorra
the travellers were taken to Europe’s largest spa where they
experienced pools, rivers, hot tubs, plunge pools, except for
Thadie and Dorothy who sat out and just watched. In the spa there
were signs that Winter and Lisa were getting more friendly with
each other. Dorothy told Brendan she wanted to go home as she did
not like any of the other travellers. At the days vote Paul and
Maggie and Jane and Michelle each received one vote but Thadie and
Dorothy received four votes and were given their second yellow card
and a red card meaning they had to leave the trip. Thadie said his
goodbyes but Dorothy just walked off. After the travellers had
dinner Winter walked Lisa back to the hotel alone, fuelling rumours
of a romance.
Day 23 - Barcelona
The days
trip was to Barcelona
. On the way Winter and Lisa appeared to be
getting on very well, although both denied there was nothing going
on between them. The first stop was at Sagrada Família. After this
two new pairs joined the coach, brothers Nathan and Gavin and
friend Tracey and Debbie bringing the coach up to fourteen
passengers again. The next activity was a Paella cooking lesson and
the travelers made their own to see whose the best was. Winter’s
team were the winners. During the activity it seemed that Winter
had competition for Lisa’s affection from new contestant Gavin.
After lunch the group had a walk through the streets of Barcelona,
where Eileen had a caricature done of herself, which did not look
anything like her. At the days vote Paul and Maggie received one
vote and Lisa and Eileen received two votes but Winter and Suki
received four votes and were given a yellow card. . During the
evening the younger contestants went out for the evening together,
with Lisa saying she hadn’t decided where her affections lay.
Day 24 - Zaragoza
At the start of the day that Gavin had beaten Winter in the race
the Lisa’s affection.
The day’s trip was to Zaragoza
. The first activity Brendan gave a graphic
description if what sort of injuries can be received during a bull
fight, which upset those with weaker stomachs. A bull ring was the
first stop of the day. Brendan decided to play a trick on the
travelers whilst they were having a talk in the middle of the bull
ring by having a fake bull charge at the first passengers, but only
a few passengers were fooled. On the trip to the next stop Tracey
decided to draw some surreal portraits of fellow passengers,
although Renee did not like the one Tracey did of her. The second
stop of the day was a demonstration of traditional Aragon music and
dancing. Nathan and Gavin decided to join in and their showing off
annoyed other passengers. Afterwards other passengers were actually
invited to take part in some of the dancing. At the days vote
Winter and Suki received one vote and Debbie and Tracey received
two votes but Gavin and Nathan received four votes and were given a
yellow card. Lisa left everyone wondering once again where her
affections lay after she allowed Eileen to give their vote to Gavin
and Nathan at the days vote and by leaving at the end of dinner
with Winter.
Day 25 - La Rioja
After
some problems with the luggage and coach in the morning the coach
made its way to the first destination La Rioja
. The first stop was a tour of a wine museum.
Gavin’s over the top behaviour again annoyed fellow passengers.
After the museum there was a wine tasting lesson. Paul decided to
join in Gavin’s over the top behaviour which embarrassed Brendan.
During
lunch the passengers enjoyed a large amount of free wine but slept
it off on the coach on the way to the next destination Bilbao
where they
visited the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
. Tracey and Lisa enjoyed looking at the art
but others found the modern art confusing. The days vote was held
on the coach. Jane and Michelle, Brian and Renee and Gavin and
Nathan received one vote each but Debbie and Tracey received four
votes and were given a yellow card. Whilst voting Gavin and Nathan
argued with Debbie and Tracey over the voting.
Day 26 - San Sebastian
The day’s
trip was to San
Sebastian
. Due to poor weather in the morning the
planned excursion to the beach was cancelled so instead they went
to a local aquarium. During the activity Winter’s and Lisa’s
relationship was brought out into the open. The afternoon’s
activity was planned to be a trip to a funfair but due to the bad
weather so the travelers were given a choice between going shopping
or going to a spa, those who chose shopping managed to get lost.
Whilst shopping other girls decided to give Debbie a makeover. At
the days vote Gavin and Nathan and Lisa and Eileen each received
one vote, Jane and Michelle received two votes but Brian and Renee
received three votes and were given a yellow card. After the vote
Debbie under went her make over with a haircut from Paul and make
up and fashion help from the girls.
Day 27 - Biarritz/Bordeaux
On the way to France the travelers sang the French national anthem,
apart from Suki who was asleep as usual.
The first activity
was a surfing lesson in Biarritz
, so the travelers donned their wet suits and headed
to the ocean. After some basic instruction they had ago at
trying it for themselves. Gavin, who has surfed before and was very
confident, went further out to sea to find bigger waves, which he
was unsuccessful in riding.
After lunch the coach headed to Bordeaux
. Tracey and Winter were given prizes for
being the best surfers earlier in the day. In Bordeaux the
travelers visited a chateau to do some more wine tasting. At the
days vote Lisa and Eileen received one vote, Jane and Michelle
received two votes but Paul and Maggie received four votes and were
given a yellow card. Paul was annoyed that Suki and Winter voted
for them as they thought Maggie was getting tired, Paul responded
by saying that despite Suki being a lot younger than Maggie that he
had been asleep more than anyone.
Day 28 - Poitiers
The day’s
destination was Poitiers
. The first activity of the day was to an
animal park where Gavin and Nathan annoyed the other travelers yet
again with their incessant questioning of tour guides. On the way
to the afternoon activity Chris the driver had an argument with
Brendan when Brendan announced how long it would take to get there
and Chris told him not to give incorrect information. The
afternoon’s activity was a tour of a local chateau. At the day’s
vote Winter and Suki received one vote, Gavin and Nathan received
two but Jane and Michelle received four votes and were given a
yellow card, much to Nathan and Gavin’s delight.
Day 29 - Paris
At the start of the day it was revealed that driver Chris had
apologized to Brendan for snapping at him the previous day.
The days
destination was Paris
where the
travelers donned berets and went on a river boat for a trip down
the river. Gavin and Nathan were convinced they were the
most French of all the passengers. Yet again Suki put a dampener on
events by refusing to wear a beret. For lunch they were able to
sample local cuisine, including Escargot. The days vote was held in
front of the Eiffel tower and instead of voting for a couple they
wanted to leave the trip they were voting for a couple they thought
deserved to win a holiday, an extended stay in Paris. Jane and
Michelle and Winter and new girlfriend Lisa received one vote each,
Brian and Renee received two votes but Paul and Maggie received
three votes and won the holiday.
Day 30 - The Last Day
The travelers left their hotel at 9:30 to begin their trip to
London. Once they had got through the Channel Tunnel the travelers
carried on the tradition of singing national anthems, joining in
during God Save the Queen. On the way back Brendan revealed his
favourite couple were Pete and Barbara, as they got more out of it
than any other couple.
His favourite activity was painting class in
Florence
, due to Eden and Angela’s lack of talent.
The coach finished its 5500 mile journey in West London with a
round of applause for driver Chris.

The Trip Day by Day
Arrival Day and Day 1 of the trip - Madrid
All the
contestants were greeted at Madrid
airport by
tour guide Brendan and they then went to their hotel where they got
to know each other. On the first evening the youngsters in
the group were drinking heavily and Alan performed a strip tease in
front of the fellow coach trippers (and other hotel guests). The
next morning Brendan had to warn them about their behavior, noting
this was not an 18 to 30 holiday.
The coach trippers were taken on an open
topped bus tour of Madrid and then had a tour of Real Madrid's Bernabeu
stadium. At the vote at the end of the day
Alan and Lorenzo received two votes, Connie and Betty also received
two votes, but Paul and Heidi received three votes which meant they
received a yellow card.
Day 2 - Segovia
Day 2 began with the news that Irene had felt ill over night and
would have to see a doctor, so her and husband John did not go on
the day's trip.
The rest of the coach trippers were taken to
the town of Segovia
. In the morning they were taught how to cook
a local dish. In the afternoon they had a tour of the Alcázar. In
the days vote Kat and Clare received one vote, Eileen and Alan
received one vote, Alan and Lorenzo received two votes and Connie
and Betty received three votes, meaning they received a yellow
card. John and Irene were allowed to cast their vote over the phone
despite not taking part in the day's trip.Irene has a bowel
movement.
Day 3 - Salamanca
The day started with the news that due to Irene still not feeling
well her and John would be leaving the trip. Brendan was annoyed
with Clare and Kat and John and Kerry for oversleeping but the
coach was delayed due to John and Irene's departure.
The morning in
Salamanca
was spent learning how to make traditional
Castilian Pottery. In the afternoon they were given a
Spanish lesson. In the day's vote Kerrie and John received one
vote, Alan and Lorenzo received one vote, Clare and Kat received
one vote and Paul and Heidi received three votes, which meant they
received their second yellow card, followed by a red card.
Day 4 - Monfortinho
The day began with news that Lorenzo had left one of his shoes in
the hotel they had stayed at in Madrid.
The coach trippers
made their way across the border to Portugal
, going to the town of Monfortinho
. There they enjoyed a couple of hours at a
spa, and Brendan unintentionally offered entertainment to the rest
of the group when in a spring bath. Clare also received news of her
university exam results from home, with her receiving an Upper
Second degree. Brendan also received news that the Madrid hotel had
found Lorenzo's shoe. The group then had a jeep ride up a mountain,
to a restaurant where they would be eating dinner. At the day's
vote Brendan revealed that they would not be voting for who they
want to leave the trip but instead who they thought deserved to
receive a night in a luxury hotel suite. Betty and Connie received
one vote, but Alan and Eileen received four, meaning they received
the night in the suite.
Day 5 - Tomar
The day began with an argument between Clare and Brendan after some
confusion about departure times. Two new couples arrived to replace
those which had left, these were Bill and Ray, and Jackie and Phil.
The day's trip was to
Tomar. In Tomar they
visited a castle. In the afternoon they had an archery lesson,
followed by a competition, which was won by Connie and Betty. Their
prize was supposed to be breakfast in bed served by Brendan,
however this would depend on them surviving the days vote. At the
vote Kat and Clare received one vote, Alan and Lorenzo received two
votes and Connie and Betty received four votes. This meant they
received a red card.
Day 6 - Lisbon
The day started with Brendan serving Phil and Jackie breakfast in
bed, at the request of Connie and Betty who could not take the
prize they won the previous day.
The day's trip was to Lisbon
.
Firstly
they visited the Lisbon Oceanarium
. In the afternoon they enjoyed a port wine
tasting session aboard a tram and then had a tile painting lesson.
At the day's vote Bill and Rae received one vote, John and Kerrie
received one vote, Alan and Eileen received one vote and Phil and
Jackie received three votes meaning they received a yellow card.
They had predicted this earlier as the new couples feel the old
couples are plotting to vote them off. After the vote new couple
Joe and Marlon arrived. Brendan, tired of the coach trippers
continuously arriving late in the mornings gave an explicit warning
that anyone late the next morning would automatically receive a
yellow card.
Day 7 - Faro
The day started with Brendan waiting at the coach to see whether
all the contestants would reach the coach by 7:30am. John and
Kerrie did not turn up. Brendan went to their hotel room and
delivered a yellow card, as promised. The day's trip was to
Faro. In the morning they received a
golf lesson, although this was delayed as several contestants were
not dressed according to the dress code which Alan (Alan and
Lorenzo) found funny, but Brendan did not find it funny. In the
afternoon they spent time at a
water
park. Joe had to go to the medical centre at the park as he
suffered from dehydration. At the day's vote Bill and Rae received
one vote, Clare and Kat received two votes and Phil and Jackie
received four votes, meaning they received a red card.
Day 8 - Lagos
The day began with the news that not only was Joe still feeling
unwell from the day before but that Kerrie was also suffering from
sunstroke.
Both of these missed the days trip to
Lagos
. In
Lagos the coach trippers went on a boat trip out at sea, where they
swam amongst the coves. Brendan, who suffers from sea sickness in
small boats did not join them but instead had a break from the
group with driver Paul. On the coach an argument from the day
before, concerning the youngsters flirty behavior at the water park
upsetting Bill and Rae was dragged up again. At the afternoon's
stop the group went in four by fours up to a distillery where they
drank fire water. At the vote Joe and Marlon received one vote and
Bill and Rae received five votes and received a yellow card. Bill
and Rae accused the original coach trippers of plotting against
Phil and Jackie and now against themselves and predicted they would
receive a red card tomorrow.
Day 9 - Seville
The day started with new passengers Dave and Di joining the coach.
It was revealed that the previous night Lorenzo had woken up the
new couple at 12:30am doing impressions of Brendan at their door,
and had then rung them up twice in the middle of the night.
Whilst on
their way to Seville
the coach had to stop whilst the toilet was
fixed. The morning's trip was a tour of the Alacazar, where
Joe annoyed several people with his puppet, Freddy. Lunch was a
Tapas tour. During lunch Joe and Clare had an argument as Joe
believes Clare has been looking down her nose at Joe and Marlon.
Joe called Clare a little girl and Clare was left in tears. Alan
and Eileen sided with Clare calling Joe's behavior disgraceful. The
Tapas tour was stopped short due to the argument. At the vote Joe
and Marlon received one vote, Alan and Eileen received one vote,
Alan and Lorenzo received two votes and Bill and Rae received three
votes meaning they received a red card.
Day 10 - Jerez
The day started with the news that the voting pact which had
existed, with the original coach trippers voting off newer couples,
appeared to be breaking down. Joe was very upset at Alan for voting
for him and Marlon the previous night and accused Alan of trying to
control the group. The day's trip was to
Jerez. The first stop was to a honey farm where the
group donned protective clothing and got up close with some bees
and then tasted some honey. Kerry was less keen as she has a phobia
of bees. The second stop was a sherry tasting activity where
several coach trippers had too much too drink. At the day's vote
Dave and Di, Alan and Eileen and Joe and Marlon all received two
votes. As there was a tie the three other couples had to decide
between them who would receive the deciding vote. They decided Alan
and Eileen should be given a yellow card.
Day 11 - Gibraltar
The day started with new couple Ivor and Andrea joining the coach.
Almost immediately they were approached by Joe to help him vote off
Alan and Eileen.
The day's trip saw the coach trippers return
to British soil as they visited Gibraltar
, singing God Save the Queen as they entered.
They took a cable car to the top of the rock to see the views of
Gibraltar and the
Barbary Apes. John was
getting on well with one of the apes until he was bitten. A local
tour guide called Angel had joined the tour for the day and
irritated Brendan by taking charge of the trips. Brendan was most
put out as he saw Angel as being local whilst he was international.
The second stop was to
HMS
York where they were given a tour of the ship by Surg.
Lt. Duncan "Flash" Gordon. At the day's vote Joe and Marlon
received one vote, Di and Dave received one vote but Alan and
Eileen received five votes so were given a red card.
Day 12 - Tangier
As the day's trip involved going to
Africa
the coach trippers had to wake up early. However there was a slight
delay as the coach had a flat battery caused by the lights being
left on over night.
Paul the driver fixed the problem and they
went on their way to the ferry port where they went on a ferry to
Tangier
. Clare tried to make peace with Joe after
their arguments over the previous few days but Joe was not
interested.
In Tangiers
they went to a market where they practiced their
haggling skills. They then had a traditional Moroccan lunch
followed by a belly dance. Ivor, Dave and Alan all joined in with
their own belly dances. At the day's vote Joe and Marlon received
one vote, Di and Dave received two votes and Clare and Kat received
three votes which earned them a yellow card.
Day 13 - Marbella/Mijas
The day's
first trip was to a private beach in Marbella
. There the coach trippers enjoyed a morning
trying out jet skis and pedalows. Alan and Lorenzo managed to turn
over their jet ski, leaving them in the water. Brendan also spent
time in the water, after Clare pushed him off of his pedalow. At
lunch a new couple, Doris and Ann joined the trip. It was also
revealed that Kat and Alan may have become more than friends.
In the
afternoon they visited Mijas
where most
of the group had a donkey ride through the town. Brendan
took the opportunity to meet up with some of his friends. At the
day's vote Di and Dave received three votes and Kat and Clare
received four votes and were given a red card. Although they were
then no longer part of the coach trip their flight home was not
until the next day and they found out where the coach trippers were
staying and had one final night with their friends on the
trip.
Day 14 - Granada
The day started with the consequences of the night before. The late
night of partying of Alan, Lorenzo, Clare and Kat had finished in
the early hours of the morning with the youngsters upsetting other
guests with the noise they made. Alan and Kat spent the night in
the same room and by morning Alan said he would rather leave the
coach than leave Kat. As Lorenzo and Alan showed no interest in
joining the day's trip and were delaying the other coach trippers
Brendan gave them a red card.
The days trip to Granada
was further delayed after they were stuck in a
traffic jam due to an accident further up the motorway. They
were finally able to make a u-turn and join a different route,
allowing them to reach Granada six hours late. The only stop of the
day was to some Moorish Baths, where they were able to relax after
the stresses of the morning. As the group was now down to just five
couples Brendan decided the night's vote would be for a prize of
two tickets to a gypsy night. Doris and Ann and Kerrie and John
received one vote each but Di and Dave received three votes,
meaning they won the night out.
Day 15 - Almeria
The day started with a new couple, Paul and Joy joining the coach.
The day's
trip was to Almería
. As the area was home to the filming of many
western firms Brendan decided the coach trippers should give each
other cowboy names. This caused problems between Kerrie and Andrea
after Kerrie gave Andrea the name of "Acting" Andrea. There had
been problems in the previous days between the two after Andrea
voted for Kerrie's friends Clare and Kat. Claiming she was missing
her daughter Kerie asked other coach trippers to vote for her and
John at the vote later in the day. The day's stop was to a wild
west theme park where the group watched stage fights and had a go
at it themselves. In the afternoon they went to the park's zoo and
watched a parrot show. At the day's vote Ivor and Andrea received
one vote but John and Kerrie received five votes and were given a
red card, meaning the original seven couples had now left. After
the vote arguments between Kerrie and Andrea continued. Andrea then
turned on Joe who had tried to stop the arguments. In the heat of
the argument Joe told Brendan he wanted to get off the trip,
although he was still on the coach at the end of the day.
Day 16 - Benidorm
The day started with new couple Jess and Becky joining the coach.
The day's
trip was to Benidorm
. First they had a water skiing lesson then
were able to have a go at Benidorm's
cable
skiing. Older members Doris and Joy did not take part, instead
they chose to go shopping. The days fun turned to misery for Joe as
he had gone skiing with £500 in his pockets and he lost all the
money in the sea. Despite Brendan organising a search party the
money was not found. To increase Joe's agony his glove puppet
Freddie also went missing and was presumed lost at sea. To mark
Joe's loss a minutes silence was held. At the day's vote Di and
Dave received one vote, Ivor and Andrea received two votes and Joe
and Marlon received three votes and were given a yellow card. After
the vote Andrea and Marlon had an argument over the way Andrea had
treated Kerrie the previous day.
Day 17 - Ibiza
The day's
trip was to Ibiza
which
needed a two hour ferry ride from the mainland. New couple
Victoria and Jackson joined the coach. The day's first stop was a
DJ mixing lesson with
Brandon Block
and Andy B. Doris was chosen as star DJ and was given the name DJ
Doris. The afternoon's stop was to a
yoga
lesson. At the vote Ivor and Andrea and Doris and Ann both received
one vote, and Joe and Marlon received five votes and were given a
red card. Joe proceeded to talk emotionally of his friends on the
coach and then addressed Ivor, saying "I love you Ivor, I love you
big time bruv", which saw Andrea make a half-hearted attempt to
hold back a laugh. She then criticised his "performance" to camera,
away from the rest of the group.
Day 18 - Tarragona
The day started with new couple Paul and Tim joining the coach.
The days
trip was to Tarragona
. The first stop was to the theme park
Port
Aventura
where some
of the group rode the roller coasters, including Dragon Khan
. This left Ann and Brendan feeling sick.
Dave went on the roller coasters despite claiming he has been
suffering from a serious balance problem in the last year, which
made Andrea suspect he has not been ill at all. The second half of
the day was a guided tour through the city. Some members of the
group made Brendan angry as they chatted through the guides talks
about the various parts of the city, and was annoyed with Becky
leaving the group to use her mobile phone. At the day's vote
Jackson and Victoria and Becky and Jess both received two votes but
Di and Dave received three votes and were given a yellow card.
There was friction during the vote after Becky and Jess said Dave
was boring. Dave and Di's main problem was with Andrea and Ivor
though. Andrea and Ivor want to get Dave and Di off the coach as
they see them as part of the old alliance. Dave and Di promised to
vote for Andrea and Ivor the next day for the reason they simply do
not like them.
Day 19 - Perpignan
The day's
trip saw the coach travel to Perpignan
, France
. On
their way the coach trippers were given a quiz on what they had
learnt in Spain. The winners would receive immunity at the nights
vote and the losers would lose their right to nominate at the vote.
Andrea and Ivor were the winners, which ruined Di and Dave's plans
to vote them off. The losers were Doris and Ann. In Perpignan the
group were given a rugby union lesson on the beach and then had a
rugby union match. Paul, of Paul and Tim, left the match because he
felt Dave was taking the game too seriously and then plotted with
Andrea who did not play to vote off Di and Dave. The second stop of
the day was to a Chateaux where they enjoyed a wine tasting
afternoon. At the days' vote Jackson and Victoria, Paul and Tim and
Jess and Becky all received one vote, but Di and Dave received
three votes and were given a red card. Andrea and Ivor then
revealed their next target was Jackson and Victoria.
Day 20 - Montpellier
The day's
trip was to Montpellier
. The first stop of the day was a cookery
lesson in French cuisine, however the Michelin Star twin chefs
which had been booked were on holiday so their sous chef took the
class instead. Jackson and Victoria's behavior during the lesson
annoyed the rest of the group. The groups lunch was the food they
made, but they had not made much and were complaining of being
hungry so Brendan had to go to a shop to buy sandwiches. The second
stop of the day was a unique type of jousting involving boats. The
girls representative won after he knocked the boys representative
off the boat and into the water. At the day's vote Paul and Tim
received one vote and Jackson and Victoria received five votes and
were given a yellow card. After the vote Andrea and Ivor promised
to complete their mission of voting off Jackson and Victoria the
next day.
Day 21 - Marseille
The day started with the news that Victoria and Jackson did not
want to continue with the trip as they knew they would be
eliminated at the days vote. As they were refusing to go on the
day's trip and were holding up the coach Brendan gave them a red
card (in fact they were both very badly hungover!). The
announcement of their departure was greeted with cheers from the
rest of the group. New couple Chandra and Vina then joined the
trip.
The
days trip was to Marseille
where the group went horse riding through the
Camargue
. The coach trippers had a lot of difficulty
controlling their horses. After this devastating news from home
arrived when the group learned of the
7 July 2005 London bombings
which had happened earlier in the day. The day's trip was
immediately cancelled as was the day's vote. The rest of the day
saw an emotional group trying to ring home to see if their friends
and family were safe. Brendan said anyone who felt they could no
longer continue travelling could leave the trip. Jess and Becky,
whose businesses were affected by the bombings, decided to leave
the trip. Brendan announced that the trip would continue as normal
the next day.
Day 22 - Sainte-Maxime
The day started with the group waving goodbye to Becky and Jess.
The day's
trip was to Sainte-Maxime
. The guest guide for the day was hometown
hero
David Ginola. The day consisted of
a tour of the bay in a boat and relaxation on the beach. Paul, of
Paul and Tim, accused Brendan of fawning over Ginola, however
Brendan said Paul was just jealous. Whilst the group relaxed on the
beach Brendan had to go back to the restaurant where they had lunch
to collect Vina's phone which she left there. Finally the group
enjoyed a game of beach football with Ginola. At the day's vote Tim
and Paul received one vote but Ivor and Andrea received four votes
and were given a yellow card. It was then revealed that they had
asked to be voted for as they wish to leave but do not want to pay
for their flight home, which they would have to do if they simply
quit the coach.
Day 23 - Grasse
The day began with Brendan giving Ivor and Andrea a red card for
manipulating the previous day's vote. He told them that plotting to
leave the trip at a certain time as they had done was not in the
spirit of the show. Two new couples then joined the coach, Mary and
Jamie, and Matt and Scott.
The days trip was to Grasse
.
The first stop of the day was to a perfumery where the coach
trippers made their own perfumes. The host went around smelling
their efforts, but Paul and Tim plotted to play a prank on him by
putting some of Doris' smelling salts in theirs. Brendan put a stop
to that idea.
The second stop of the day was to an art
gallery in Antibes
where the group did their own paintings on steel
and used a press to produce them. At the day's vote Paul and
Tim received two votes and Chandra and Vina received four votes and
were given a yellow card.
Day 24 - Portofino
The day began with new couple Dennis and Jackie joining the coach.
The day's
trip saw the coach leave France
and go to
the town of Portofino
in Italy
. On
the way there the coach trippers learned some Italian phrases. They
were unable to take the coach into Portofino as the streets are too
narrow, so instead they went on sail boats. The coach trippers were
split into two teams, one on each boat. They then raced the boats
across the bay. Brendan's boat won, despite losing a sail halfway
through. In Portofino the winning team was presented a trophy.
Paul, of Paul and Tim, who was on the losing side, was not gracious
in defeat. At the day's vote Joy and Paul, Matt and Scott and Paul
and Tim all received one vote but Vina and Chandra received four
votes and were given a red card.
Day 25 - Lucca
The day did not start well with the news that the hotel's breakfast
was not up to the standard usually expected on coach trip and also
that Tim had lost his passport.
The day's trip was to Lucca
.
The first stop was at
Pinocchio Park. This
bored most of the coach trippers and was described as being like
"watching paint dry" and as the "low point of the trip". At lunch
Paul, of Paul and Tim, had an upset stomach, and made sure everyone
else knew about it, which upset the rest of the group. Due to the
stressful nature of the day a walking tour of Lucca was cancelled,
instead they spent time relaxing at the beach, apart from Tim who
had to go to the police to sort out his passport. At the vote
Dennis and Jackie, and Scott and Matt received one vote each but
Paul and Tim received four votes and were given a yellow card.
Later that night new couple John and Kelly arrived.
Day 26 - Maranello
As the
coach trip reached its final week the day's trip was to Maranello
. The first stop of the day wasto a Go Kart
track where the boys and girls both had a race. The girls race was
won by Mary. The boys race was won by Matt. The days lunch was a
difficult one. Firstly it was announced by Brendan that the days
vote would be anonymous, so no-one would know who voted for who.
Secondly Matt, Scott and Dennis had a loud arguemt about the food.
The
afternoons stop was a tour of a Ferrari
museum. The group were even allowed to sit
in a classic car. At the day's anonymous vote Jamie and Mary
received one vote, Dennis and Jackie received two votes but Doris
and Ann received four votes and were given a yellow card.
Day 27 - Modena
The day began with the news that driver Paul had found Tim's lost
passport whilst he was cleaning the coach.
The day's trip was to
Modena
.
The first stop was a tour of a Balsamic vinegar farm where they
were shown how the vinegar is made. They then tasted the vinegar on
its own and with ice cream. The afternoons activity was an opera
singing lesson. Not everyone enjoyed the lesson. Matt and Scott
were told off for not taking the lesson seriously, John was not at
all interested, and Paul, of Paul and Tim, was asked to leave by
the teacher for mucking about. At the day's vote Doris and Ann, and
Paul and Joy received one vote each, but John and Kelly received
five votes and were given a yellow card.
Day 28 - Verona
The day began with news that John and Kelly no longer wished to
continue on the trip and would be flying home.
The day's trip was to
Verona
.
The days first stop was to the commissioner of tourism's office in
the
Scaliger palace. It is so rare for
tourists to be allowed in the palace that the trip made it onto the
local TV news. At the palace they used the balcony to view across
to what is believed to be Romeo's house. The next stop was to what
is believed to be Juliet's balcony, where some of the couples
shared a romantic kiss, as well as Brendan and Paul, of Paul and
Tim! The next stop was a
Tortellini
cooking lesson with Paul, of Paul and Tim, leading a group and
Brendan leading another. Both teams resorted to cheating to try and
win. Paul bribed the kitched staff to give him some pasta they had
already made, and Brendan used a pasta machine instead of
handmaking it. Both plots foulled though as the judge revealed he
knew of the cheating and declared a draw. At the day's vote Mary
and Jamie received one vote and Matt and Scott received five votes
and were given a yellow card. Jamie and Mary plus Paul and Joy were
extremely annoyed at Matt and Scott pressuring them before the
previous day's vote.
Day 29 - Milan
The day's
trip and the final destination of the trip was to Milan
.
The morning's activities were taking photographs of the famous
sights of Milan and an hours shopping in the designer stores of the
city. The afternoon's activity was a visit to a fashion house where
they learned how to be models and walk the catwalk. They then took
part in their own fashion show. The day's vote was for the prize of
staying on in Milan for a short holiday after everyone else goes
home. Mary and Jamie, Doris and Ann, Dennis and Jackie, and Matt
and Scott all received one vote each but Paul and Joy received two
votes and won the holiday in Milan.
Day 30: The Last Day
The final
morning saw the rest of the group wave goodbye to Paul and Joy who
remained in Milan
for the
winners holiday. The rest of the group made their way to
Milan airport. On the coach Jackie sang a song she had written
about the trip, and Paul the driver was given a round of applause
for all his hard work. Brendan revealed his favourite parts of the
trip. His favourite couples were Irene and John, Ann and Doris,
Connie and Betty, John and Kerry and Paul and Tim.
His favourite cities
were Salamanca
and Seville
. His highlight of the trip was the day spent
with
David Ginola. At the airport
everyone had to say their goodbyes, as after over 3000 miles, six
countries and 44 passengers the coach trip was over.

The Trip Day by Day
Arrival Day and Day 1 of the trip - Antwerp
The
coach trip once again started in London
where tour
guide Brendan met the seven couples to start the trip.
The
coach party then traveled to Dover to catch the ferry to Calais
. On
board, Tom revealed he had a supply of
absinthe. The
duty free
off-licence proved popular.
Brendan revealed
their first stop would be Antwerp
, Belgium
.Everyone seemed to bond well initially although
Jackie and Susan’s habit of waving their little Belgian flags at
all the passing vehicles eventually wore thin with Geoff.
Geoff was however amused to find out their hotel was near both a
sex shop and a church. The next morning, the coach trippers toured
Antwerp, visiting the Notre Dame Cathedral and its examples of
Rubens’ paintings. The talk was interesting
to many of the older members of the trip, but the younger trippers
(Matt, Tom, Holly and Taryn) showed little interest. Almost
everyone climbed the 284 steps to the top of the cathedral’s spire
though Jackie, Susan and Diane decided to have a coffee instead.
Anne overcame her fear of heights to see the view. The youngsters
instead amused themselves playing with a feather floating in the
updraft from the floors below.
The second activity was a visit to the diamond museum. The talk
seemed to have little effect though as nobody seemed to know where
diamonds came from afterwards.
At the day’s vote Colin & Diane, Jackie & Susan and Matt
& Tom received one vote and Geoff & Anne received four
votes and the trip’s first yellow card.
Day 2 - Reims
After an overnight stay in what Brenden described as a tacky chain
hotel, Day 2 found Geoff & Anne still feeling down after the
previous day's vote.
The group headed to Reims
and its "Surrender Museum" situated on the exact
location on which the German surrender was signed on May 7, 1945.
it was an emotional experience for the older group members,
particularly Diane, who was invited to sit in one of the seats
around the surrender table which brought her to tears.
A lunch break of snails and frog legs cheered up most of the group,
except self-confessed partial vegetarian William who was less keen.
On the coach journey to the day's second activity, Holly &
Taryn bemused Colin & Diane with their tuneless rendition of
Paris Hilton and
Nicole Richie's "odd little song" from
"
The Simple Life".
The second port of call was to the Pommery
Champagne Estate which has a very unusual
art installation of
finches playing electric
guitars. The aviary in indoors and the birds "play" the guitars
when they move around on the strings. The sight of this exhibit
upset William who thought it cruel to keep the birds hidden away
from daylight. The guide's insistence that a vet visited each week
did not convince him. Then it was onto the tasting at the end of
the tour. As ever on Coach Trip, this was a very popular experience
with free alcohol being available.
At the day's vote Graham & Ivy received one vote, Holly &
Taryn received 2 votes while Geoff & Anne received 4 votes and
were red carded, becoming the second couple in 3 series to get a
red card on day 2. The majority of the reasons given were that they
hadn't gelled with the rest of the group. Anne said to the rest of
the group that she believed women tend not to like her but that the
group had liked Geoff.
At the next hotel that night, the 4 youngest members of the group
were diving into the pool in their clothes and were joined by
Graham. Tom and Holly were later seen going upstairs together,
still soaking wet.
Day 3 - Luxembourg City
Determined to get to the bottom of the previous night's events,
Brendan visits both Matt & Tom and Holly & Taryn in their
hotel rooms. The boys claim Tom only gave her a dry shirt to wear
back to her room, seemingly letting slip that Tom undressed her
because she was drunk because Tom "is a gentleman". The girls deny
everything. Brendan is not convinced by either story and finds the
boys with her shoes when they go outside to the coach. On the
coach, the boys are making fun of the girls which they take to mean
the boys have a crush on them. Getting their own back, they put
makeup and nail polish on them, which they didn't resist.
The
coach took them to Luxembourg City
where they were given a tour by a local
guide. William had been here before and said it was still
boring. First off was a visit to the outside of the Grand Duke's
palace, followed by looking at the unusual street lamps which have
faces molded into them, designed to appear to follow the viewer as
they walk by. Then it was onto a view over the city but the
trippers were desperate to go to the toilet, for which Brendan had
to hand out money for them all to go. Matt & Tom however
decided to run and jump around the ancient catacombs until it was
time for lunch. After that, they took the coach to a workshop to
make ceramic bird-shaped whistles. This prompted a stream of
innuendos as the process was described to them. Jackie's was judged
by the expert to be the best and won a professionally made example
of the whistle.
At the vote, William & Deanne received three votes as did Colin
& Diane. The remainder of the group decided the yellow card
should go to William & Diane as most the votes for the Welsh
couple had been from people not expecting them to get votes from
anyone else. New couple James & Tracy from Plymouth joined the
coach trip. Jackie & Susan complained that their room was too
small for their size. Sympathizing, Brendan managed to secure
another room so they had one each.
Day 4 - Strasbourg
Everyone is an early riser for day 4, with Ivy wearing another of
her wigs - one for each day.
Brendan reveals on the coach that their
next destination is Strasbourg
which doesn't elicit much enthusiasm. Deanne
offers to read her Tarot cards for Ivy but Ivy is not happy to pay
the £10 Deanne is asking for. Deanne will not back down as it is a
business thing to her.
The first activity was an Alsatian-style cookery class where they
would eat what they cooked. Jackie & Susan win the contest
while the boys come last. The coach then takes them onto the
Europa theme park just across the
border in Germany where 66 year old Diane surprises everyone by
going on the tallest
rollercoaster in
Europe.
Vote time brought simmering tensions to the fore. Holly &
Taryn; Colin & Diane and William & Deanne received one
vote, Jackie & Susan and Graham & Ivy received two votes.
Graham & Ivy received one of their votes from William &
Deanne which prompted Graham & Ivy to become verbally
aggressive towards them. With two couples on 2 votes, the rest of
the group retired to decide who to give the yellow card to. They
agreed Graham's outburst made the decision easy and so Graham &
Ivy were given their first yellow card. Graham still would not
accept this and continued to complain about the tarot card issue.
William & Deanne were unsure if they wished to continue on the
trip.
Day 5 - Mount Titlis
William & Deanne don't come down for breakfast so Brendan finds
them in their room. They have opted to stay and (in William's
words) "fight the forces of
Skeletor".
There is still widespread tension on the coach. Graham apologises
for his outburst, crudely begging for sympathy by claiming it is
his and Ivy's anniversary.
The coach crosses the border to Switzerland
, where they take cable
cars to the top of Mount Titlis
snow park. Everyone enjoys the ensuing
snowball fight but the altitude takes its toll on Deanne, Jackie
and Susan who have to go back down the mountain.
After lunch, the groups split up to either take a sedate walk
inside the glacier (where Ivy asks Brendan many basic questions
about glaciers) or go
tobogganing.
Graham and William make up. Off-camera, William is sceptical. But
everyone seems to have fun in the snow. Ivy is still not entirely
sure what a glacier is.
The vote takes place on the coach, where Graham expects he and Ivy
will be voted off. Matt & Tom and Graham & Ivy receive two
votes, whilst James & Tracy receive three. Graham's apology
("and their anniversary") has been enough to keep them on the
trip.
Day 6 - Lucerne/Vitznau
The
day's trip is to Lucerne
in Switzerland
. The group are taken to visit the
Wasserturm, a medieval place of torture and a watchtower set in the
lake and reached via the Kapellbrücke
. Unfortunately, the tour guide spends a long
time describing the tower - in Swiss German, a language nobody on
the trip can understand, some of the group (even Brendan) tried not
to laugh on the man's language. The guide's colleague translates
the talk but manages to do so in a fraction of the time and so has
obviously left out the majority of the detail. The coach party have
to try hard to stifle their yawns or laughter, and even Brendan is
not immune.
After the tour, lunch is taken on board a
paddle steamer and it seems to have made up
for the disappointment of the tour. Even Graham & Ivy appear to
be getting on better with William & Deanne, but it looks forced
and William privately doesn't think the past events can be totally
forgiven.
Following lunch, the group visit Vitznau
and are treated to a demonstration of crossbow
making by a William Tell
lookalike. Most of them do pretty well firing a crossbow
afterwards.
The vote once again produces fireworks, with 3 couples already on
yellow cards. James & Tracy receive one vote, whilst both Colin
& Diane and Graham & Ivy total three votes. Colin &
Diane's vote for Graham & Ivy sets Graham off and Will
(followed shortly after by Deanne) walks off in disgust. They
return to reveal their vote is also for Graham & Ivy because
not enough progress has been made between the two couples. This
forces the group to convene to decide the destination of the day's
red card. They unanimously decide on Graham & Ivy, seeing the
continued outbursts as unacceptable. Graham is not prepared to
quietly accept the vote and voices his disappointment, followed by
Ivy throwing insults at the entire coach party, saying that they
are all
dry, like a piece of bread wivout no butter. As
Graham & Ivy leave to collect their bags, the remaining coach
trippers rejoice their departure.
That evening the group go to a Stadtkeller, a traditional
pub-restaurant, where a good time is had by all.
Day 7 - Liechtenstein
Day 7 begins with the coach trippers reflecting on the previous
night's partying. The boys have a tiny BMX bicycle which they found
in a hedge. Everyone has had a go on it. Brendan encourages Matt to
ride it to the river and leave it where all the locals park their
bikes. As usual, William correctly states their destination.
The
coach takes them to Liechtenstein
. The first stop is at the Prince of
Liechtenstein's vast vineyard. True to form, the coach trippers
take full advantage of the free wine on offer, especially Tom who,
despite claiming he dislikes wine, drinks glass after glass of it,
leaving him distinctly "under the influence". Meanwhile, William
and others have ventured out to the vine groves and he helps
himself to a bunch of grapes as the Prince, being so rich, won't
miss them.Matt & Tom find the children's playground which
provides them with amusement. William joins them which momentarily
slows the pace down but it soon gets lively as he and Tom tussle on
the see-saw.
The afternoon activity is a bird of prey show at a
falconry centre, where everybody wraps up to combat
the cold. Everyone seems to enjoy the talk from the knowledgeable
bird handler but several of them are bitten by the female
kestrel. Brendan is not too keen on the
ravens.
At voting time, Holly & Taryn get one vote against them, as do
Matt & Tom, Jackie & Susan and James & Tracy. Colin
& Diane receive two votes. Tom says he heard Graham state that
the Welsh couple had talked of the youngsters getting a yellow
card, something they strongly deny, pointing out Graham's
reputation on the trip.
Newcomers Krishnan & Scott join the trip, with Krishnan
pretending to be Scott when meeting Brendan. It seems they plan on
being the comedians on the coach. Krishnan is clearly another one
who likes his alcohol. He also reveals after dinner that he has
become aware of a voting pact but won't reveal who is
involved.
Day 8 - Munich
Munich
is the destination of the coach trip on Day
8. Krishnan & Scott have decided not to go along with
any voting pact. Colin is philosophical about last night's vote,
saying he and Diane have stayed on longer than he might have
expected. On the coach, Krishnan & Scott's obsession with
Brendan continues as they reveal that Krishnan has "tattooed" "I
love Brendan" on Scott's wrist in ballpoint pen. Their camp antics
appeal to Holly & Taryn's own sense of fun. The boys' thoughts
last night that they will either be loved or hated could well prove
to be true.
First
stop of the day is the Munich Olympic Stadium
where most of the trippers are taken on a tour up
onto the stadium roof. In the end, it doesn't seem extreme
enough for Matt & Tom, though the others enjoy the
experience.
Later in
the day, the Marienplatz
is the venue for the viewing of the Glockenspiel clock performance. It seems
Brendan has built it up too much as the majority of the party seem
underwhelmed. Following this, Brendan gives them 50 minutes to
either got to a
bierkeller or to go
shopping. The majority, bar Holly & Taryn and Jackie &
Susan, opt to go drinking. We don't see where William & Deanne
went. Non-drinker Tracy ends up wishing she'd gone shopping too.
The drinkers are 10 minutes late for the 6 o'clock deadline, with
holly & Taryn being a further 5 minutes late. But Brendan
forgives them as they are girls going shopping.
Voting time leaves Matt & Tom, Holly & Taryn, Jackie &
Susan, James & Tracy and William & Deanne on one vote and
Colin & Diane on two votes, leading to them receiving their red
card. Scott & Krishnan's vote ends up being the decider as
everyone was on one vote until their turn came round.
Day 9 - Salzburg
There's a downbeat start to the day as Jackie & Susan tell
Brendan that they are feeling drained, particularly after the
antics of Krishnan & Scott. Brendan persuades them to remain on
the coach for the day and re-assess things after the vote.
Everyone
avoids Krishnan & Scott on the coach as it heads to the
Eagles Nest above Salzburg
. The coach party travel up to the house in
the original lift. The British guide has likely never seen anyone
quite like Krishnan, seemingly dressed in the girls' coat, woolie
hat and sunglasses. There's a certain amount of unease amongst many
at the popularity of the location. Matt unbelievably poses for a
photograph, making a nazi salute and mimicking Hitler's moustache.
Matt then said that he was just doing Basil Fawlty's (from
Fawlty Towers) famous moment.
The coach arrives three hours late for its next destination, a
chocolate shop where the trippers are treated to a demonstration of
how to make the world famous
Mozart
Balls. Brendan has a hard time getting everyone to rush to the
shop, although they find it before he does.
Following the activity, the coach has to wind its way up very
narrow lanes to the night's hotel as Paul's
Sat
Nav has sent him on an inappropriate route. In the end,
everyone has to get taxis to the hotel whilst Brendan and Paul have
to make a U turn and find a better route. The trippers are already
eating when Brendan returns one hour later so he goes to each room
to collect the votes. Jackie & Susan receive one vote, William
& Deanne receive two, while Krishnan & Scott end up with
three and a yellow card. All is not over for the day however, as
Jackie & Susan decide nothing has improved and decide to leave
the coach that night.
Day 10 - Innsbruck
Brendan visits Krishnan & Scott in the morning to find out how
they are after last night's vote. They seem downbeat. He and driver
Paul then inspect the coach damage from the trip to the hotel.
En route
to Innsbruck
and with newcomers Caroline and Charli onboard, he
reveals Jackie & Susan's reasons for voting against Krishnan
& Scott, who don't agree they should have had a vote as they
left the trip. James also tells the boys that he too thought
they were disruptive and made it difficult for people to hold
conversations on the coach. The first activity is learning to
yodel. After that, the second activity is
summer
bobsleighing on the Olympic
track, which involves riding in wheeled bobsleighs at up to 100
kilometres per hour. Before the run, Brendan introduces newcomers
73 year old Betty & her son Daz. Betty declines to do the
bobsleigh run, along with Deanne.
Ahead of voting time, Holly & Taryn show concern that with two
new couples on board, they are more vulnerable to getting a yellow
card. At the vote itself, Holly & Taryn get one vote, William
& Deanne receive two votes and Krishnan & Scott receive
four votes and a red card. their loud antics have clearly grated
with the majority of the group. Surprisingly, even Holly &
Taryn (who have spent a great deal of time joining in with the
pair) vote against them - for "stealing their limelight".
Day 11 - Riva del Garda
En route
to the day's destination of Lake Garda
it becomes clear that Holly & Taryn are unhappy
at the presence of Charli and her mother, and more so at the fact
they are sitting with Matt & Tom on the coach.
Arriving
at Riva del
Garda
, the group head straight to the stereotypical
souvenir shops before boarding the road-going miniature "train" to
tour the streets.
The group taste the local grapes and grape juice before feasting on
a traditional open air buffet of meats and cheeses. It becomes
clear that Holly & Taryn and Caroline & Charli are not keen
on each other, with the girls claiming the mother and daughter are
"fake". Following lunch, the next activity is sailing on a
catamaran, though those who have a fear of water
or sailing sit it out. The rest sail in their respective pairings.
Holly & Taryn are very insecure about their appearance in the
wetsuits, refusing to be filmed from behind and then complaining
their make up is ruined afterwards. Everyone seems to have enjoyed
the sailing itself though.
The vote brings tensions to the fore once again. William &
Deanne end up with two votes while Charli & Caroline receive
four votes and the yellow card, which greatly upsets them. Holly
& Taryn reveal on camera that they have an alliance with Matt
& Tom and intend voting off the newcomers to preserve the
original group which remains. They say this is the correct way to
"play the game".
Day 12 - Venice
Brendan
introduces new couple, sisters Ann & Grace, to the coach
trippers before they set off for Venice
. He shares his vast collection of
information on the city with the group. The romance between Holly
& Tom is now out in the open as they walk round Venice, whilst
Taryn & Matt hold hands too. The first activity is a gondola
ride, with the four youngsters sharing a boat. The boys seem very
reluctant to show public affection however. The girls don't seem to
agree whether Matt is attracted to Taryn but they say that Charli
"fancies Matt". Charli shows a lot of interest in the local male
population however.Following the gondola trip, the group have an
alfresco lunch which doesn't go down well
with Ann & Grace who prefer traditional Yorkshire fare.
The
second activity is a visit to the glassblowing factory at Murano
where everyone gets a chance to try glass blowing
for themselves. The newest members of the coach trip attract
some uncomplimentary comments to camera from the loved up
youngsters.
The vote on the coach ends up with James & Tracy on 3 votes and
Betty & Daz on 4, prompting Daz to call a special meeting in
the hotel of all the newer contestants (Daz & Betty, Caroline
& Charli, Ann & Grace) and they determine that Tracy is the
centre of the voting pact as (in their views) she mothers the
youngsters and Deanne looks up to her. Therefore they must supplant
Tracy by getting friendly with Deanne, particularly when on the
coach.. They hope to get William & Deanne on their side to
split up the voting pact which has aimed all along to keep the
original group on the coach at the expense of newcomers.
Day 13 - Comacchio & Ravenna
The rift in the group is still the subject of conversation at the
lunch table for the newcomers the next morning. Unfortunately, none
of them manage to sit near William & Deanne on the coach as it
ends up with all the members of the voting clique sitting together
at the back of the coach.
Comacchio
is the first stop of the day and the coach takes
them to an eel farm where the trippers are to
catch their own eels before eating them. What they are not
expecting is to then hand their live eels to the cook who chops
their head off in front them with an axe before putting them on a
large skewer over an open fire, where the tails still move. This
proves a turn off for some of the coach trippers who are unable to
eat their meal. Meanwhile the two separate groups on the coach are
still not mingling.
Activity
2 is a visit to Ravenna
, famous for its mosaics. Each pair makes its own
interpretation of the town's official bird. Brendan has to stop Tom
from taking coloured tiles from a different table to use in his
mosaic when he hasn't had permission from the artist giving the
demonstration. The tutor announces Daz & Betty as the
winners.
Ahead of the vote, Daz seems confident that change is in the air
but the vote itself proves predictable as James & Tracy receive
3 votes (all from the newcomers) and Caroline & Charli receive
3 from the voting pact. An argument ensues. Only William &
Deanne vote differently, for Daz & Betty. This forces a
discussion as to who will get the yellow card. There is no
agreement between the two factions as to who goes home so the
voting pact wins due to superior numbers as William says they will
not vote against the couple who have been supportive to them.
Caroline & Charli are distraught and Charli goes back to
confront Holly & Taryn and Matt & Tom who all find the
situation amusing, although Taryn appears to think Tom takes things
a step too far with his final comment. Daz talks to Tracy
afterwards and leaves sounding like he's made a breakthrough but
Tracy's reaction to the camera as he turns away shows
otherwise.
Day 14 - Bologna
There are three couples who have been on the coach trip from the
start but that situation will change by the end of the day. At
breakfast, Ann & Grace share a table with James & Tracy and
it seems the members of the voting pact are welcoming them into the
fold (or courting their support). Anne & Grace say that
everything is now fine in the group. Daz & Betty are more
cautiously optimistic until they get on the coach and decide that
the sisters have now joined the pact, breaking up the newcomers
alliance. William & Deanne state to camera that they are now
weary of the trip. The first stop is a brief Italian lesson at the
University of Bologna. This proves to be quite a challenge. The
coach then takes them to a vineyard where they learn to crush
grapes in the traditional way - with their feet. Holly & Taryn
are very reluctant to step in the grapes. But before they begin,
they are introduced to the latest coach trippers, Hannah &
Kate, best friends from London. Holly & Taryn's reaction to
camera suggests they think there should only be one such couple -
themselves. And besides (according to Taryn), they "are much
hotter". The bitchy comments continue after the activity. William
& Deanne also state (to camera) that they have been canvassing
for votes to be red-carded. One of the rules of Coach Trip is that
contestants only receive a free flight home if they are voted off,
rather than leaving by choice. At the vote, William & Deanne
receive 3 votes (from the rest of the pact members) while and Matt
& Tom receive 3 from the newcomers alliance. Hannah & Katie
vote for Ann & Grace. At the subsequent discussion, everyone
agrees to let William & Deanne get their wish to go home.
However, as they are handed their red card, Brendan reveals they
would have been sent home anyway had the vote not gone their way,
due to the fact they had canvassed for the votes. This is to be a
warning for the rest of the group. At the hotel that night, Holly
& Taryn receive a (possibly staged) phone call from their
employer purportedly calling them back to their jobs in the UK.
James (James & Tracy) has said on Facebook that, "We knew they
had work commitments yes. The phone call on TV was another bit of
editing trickery to provide some continuity." The remaining two
couples from the pact come to say goodbye. (Note: since the
programme was made, it was revealed in the press that Tom has moved
to Australia to be with Holly).
Day 15 - Cesenatico
The coach is already 5 minutes late for departure when Brendan
knocks on Hannah & Kate's door. Apparently, they are still on
UK time. Once everyone is on board, Brendan explains why Holly
& Taryn had to leave. This strangely prompts tears from Daz
which Tracy feels are false considering their run-ins.
Mark & Ann from
Nottingham
are the newest members of the coach
trip. Mark is
visually
impaired and explains that it gives him
tunnel vision.
The
destination for the day is Cesenatico
where the group learn to make a Piadina. Matt & Tom waste no time trying
to recruit Hannah & Katie to help form a fresh alliance.
Meanwhile Daz and Tracy are at odds over comments Daz has made
earlier. Tracy makes it clear she intends voting for Daz every
day.
It's on to the beach for the afternoon and Tom runs naked into the
sea with just his shorts to cover his modesty. Daz joins in by
mooning the camera. Brendan takes the
opportunity to relax and sunbathe, apart from having water poured
on his face by Matt. Daz and Tracy each find themselves apparently
mellowing towards each other as a result of staying apart at the
beach.
During the vote, the tension between Daz and Tracy re-appear as
Hannah & Katie and Ann & Grace receive one vote whilst
James & Tracy and Daz & Betty end up with two. The tie is
resolved in James & Tracy's favour and Daz & Betty bid
their farewells, though James & Tracy don't join in.
Luke
& Joey, two stand-up comedians from London
are
introduced to the coach trippers as everyone heads back to the
coach.
Day 16 - Conero
Beginning the coach's last day in Italy, Luke and Joey introduce
themselves to the rest of the travellers before Brendan challenges
everyone to describe their partner as a pizza topping. Luke &
Joey have to describe their joke answers (cement and mushroom)
which doesn't do their self-proclaimed comedian status any
favours.
Arriving in
Conero, the day's first activity
is a guided walk through the
Frassasi
Caves where the four youngest male coach trippers are very
taken by the tour guide. Lunch is then eaten indoors as it is
raining heavily. They are serenaded by an
accordion player. 90% of the world's accordions
are made in the region. The musician is so deeply involved in his
playing that his facial expressions have everyone, including
Brendan, in hysterics. Fortunately, he is oblivious to this.
The
coach then takes them north to the port of Ancona
in order to take the 9 hour ferry crossing to
Croatia
. The sight of the rough sea has a number of
people feeling very nervous.
At voting time, Hannah & Katie, Ann & Grace and Ann &
Mark receive 1 vote and Matt & Tom are awarded 3 votes and the
yellow card. Brian & Trish join the coach. Brian was a coach
and bus driver for 35 years. Trish reveals she enjoys all forms of
travel, except ferries.
It's a rough sea crossing...
Day 17 - Makarska
After the rough ferry trip everyone is feeling worse for wear,
particularly Grace's sister Ann. An unappetizing breakfast doesn't
help anyone's recovery. Matt & Tom cannot be bothered to make
friends with anyone now that they and James & Tracy are the
only couples remaining from week 1.
Brendan isn't impressed with tour guide
Tania's over-familiarity with his coach party as they walk round
the town of Makarska
. The local war veterans'
tug of war proves a greater attraction and Luke
& Joey sneak off to watch and chat to the competitors. The
lunch of salad doesn't agree with Ann's upset stomach so she and
Grace head to the hotel.
Following lunch, the group have the option of
mountain biking in the hills or going for a
more peaceful coastal walk. Luke falls off his bike. Tracy ends up
talking about
circumcisions in
Turkey.
At voting time, Grace comes out with a tirade against Joey &
Luke for voting against Matt & Tom the previous day. She
doesn't agree with the reason being they had been on the longest
(despite this often being used as a reason on Coach Trip). Joey
& Luke and James & Tracy both receive 3 votes. Matt assumes
that the yellow card goes to the two boys but this annoys the newer
members. However, the majority vote is against the boys anyway as
Brian & Trish side with the longer-term coach trippers. Grace's
outburst has taken Joey & Luke and Mark & Ann by
surprise.
Day 18 - Dubrovnik
An early
start to the day takes the coach trippers to Dubrovnik
but relations are still frosty between Joey &
Luke and Ann & Grace. The coach journey through the
hills results in Mark's partner Ann being physically sick after an
enforced stop by the coach. Ann & Grace are also suffering.
Upon reaching Dubrovnik, it's clear Brendan's usual thorough
briefing on the coach is lost on the trippers as they tour the
city.
Ann & Grace's dislike of heights kicks in as they climb upwards
along the city walls and Ann's vertigo leads to her wanting to go
back. But the tour is one way so they have to soldier on.
Following lunch, most of the coach party go sea
kayaking whilst Ann & Grace and Trish sit down
for a break. James (who can't swim) sits by himself.
The vote brings yet another spat as James & Tracy get 3 votes
and Luke & Joey get 4. Therefore, Joey & Luke get the red
card. Luke accuses James of being a hypocrite for using length of
time on the coach as a reason for giving a vote after he (James)
had said it wasn't an acceptable reason previously. Mark & Ann
believe they or Hannah & Katie will be the next targets for a
red card as the "coach mafia" appear to have recruited more members
from the newer coach trippers.
Day 19 - Montenegro
Tracy had an
epileptic seizure the
night before, so she and James remain at the hotel for the day and
are immune from the vote (and ineligible from voting themselves).
As the
coach climbs towards Montenegro
, Grace panics at the altitude and the coach is
forced to pull over as her attack gets worse. She smokes a
cigarette and soon passes out, leading Ann to think her sister has
died. When she comes round, the sisters are taken to the hotel by
taxi. Losing two couples from the pact leaves Matt & Tom
feeling vulnerable to being sent home at the vote. Mark & Ann
feel this is the chance to get rid of the boys.
The remaining couples head to a
Clay pigeon shooting range where
Brendan simply hopes nobody shoots anyone else (or themselves).
The next
visit is to the small 15th century church of Our Lady of The Rock,
situated on a tiny man-made island of the Bay of Kotor
. The island was built up over many years of
sailors dropping rocks on the site for luck. Legend has it that the
painting of
The Madonna inside was found
by two fishermen who placed it on rocks to keep it above the water.
One of them eventually took it to a local church, but it was
discovered back at the original spot it was found. This happened
three times and so the church was built to house it. Whilst
everyone else takes in the culture of the church, Matt & Tom
mess around by themselves as usual outside the church.
There is a surprise at voting time as Brendan reveals there will be
no vote due to the low numbers present. This is a disappointment to
Mark & Ann who feel their chance to remove Matt & Tom has
gone. The boys are ecstatic as they knew they were at risk of
getting red-carded. However, it turns out that the votes would have
been as follows: Trish & Brian and Tom & Matt - 1 vote, Ann
& Mark - 2 votes. They seem to be less popular than they
imagined and avoided the yellow card.
Sanndra & Michelle join the coach at the border before the
coach returns to Dubrovnik. The new couple make it very clear they
are single and could be on the look out for romance on the
coach.
Day 20 - Split
Down first to breakfast, Sandra & Michelle are keen to get to
know the rest of the coach party as they had little chance to talk
the previous evening. Brendan goes to see Ann & Grace in their
room, where they tell him that, due to health reasons, they are
leaving the trip after 8 days onboard, Ann then ended up in tears
when she still remebered the previous day's incident.
To lighten the mood
on the coach, Brendan plays the Village
People song, Y.M.C.A. through the
coach's speakers and jokes about his time in San
Francisco
in
1982. Ann & Mark aren't so keen to join in. Tom admits
to camera that he enjoys winding Ann up.
Arriving
in Split
, the first stop is a stroll round the Roman ruins
and tacky souvenir shops. As they are being given a tour by
a local guide, the party find they have been joined by a stranger
who claims to be oblivious to the fact it's a tour. James later
says she was scared off by Brendan asking her if she had paid.
Everyone seems disappointed that the location is so "touristy".
They are taken to the statue of
Grgur
Ninski and are encouraged to tickle his big toe as it is
claimed to bring good fortune to those who do so.
Second activity of the day is playing
picigin in the shallow water at the beach. The group
split into two, boys and girls, each with one champion player
assisting them. Brendan doesn't join in and Mark decides he is
beter off going for a paddle in the water, leaving Brendan hoping
he is safe doing so with his tunnel vision. The boys group appears
better at playing picigin and the girls' champion player gets a
little frustrated with their lack of ability.
Matt & Tom and Brian & Trish receive one vote at the end of
the day whilst Ann & Mark receive three votes. Trish
incorrectly accuses Ann of calling James "hideous", something
actually said by Luke. She refuses to retract her accusation
however. Only Hannah & Katie save them from a clean
sweep.
Day 21 - Zadar
Everyone has enjoyed the 5 star hotel overnight. However, Hannah
& Katie have enjoyed it too much, sleeping in again. Brendan
has to phone their room to hurry them up and the coach leaves half
an hour late. On the coach, Brendan warns a yellow card will follow
a similar incident. Ann & Mark do not enjoy sitting opposite
Matt & Tom who engage with Brian & Trish and James &
Tracy instead.
The
destination for the day is Zadar
where the trippers learn the history of the
country's greatest export, the cravat.
They are given a small costumed recreation of the background to the
cravat and the male model's total lack of a smile amuses everyone.
Tracy makes strangling motions behind Ann & Mark as Ann is
encouraged to tie a cravat round Mark's neck, something she's never
done before. On leaving the shop, another film crew is there to ask
Brendan about the programme. Ann & Mark are still feeling
totally excluded.
Next up
is a boat trip on the Adriatic
to an island beach but first the group is
introduced to Paul & Alexander from Newcastle. The beach
turns out to be no more than 10 metres wide and covered in
shingle so the group restrict themselves to swimming.
After the swim, Katie playfully tries to take Brendan's towel from
around his waist although it is a joke as he still has his swimming
trunks on. However, Tom decides one again to run around naked with
his hands over his crotch. Brendan asks him to get dressed but Ann
has had enough of his exhibitionism and puts her hand down between
his body and the jeans he is holding over his crotch. She explains
to camera this was to teach him a lesson. James and Brian (again,
both to camera) say they found Tom's behaviour acceptable and
amusing, but not Ann's.
At the vote, it is a clean sweep against Ann & Mark. Ann &
Mark themselves give a retaliatory vote against Brian & Trish
for their vote the day before. Trish's response to Mark reiterating
that Ann did not make the "hideous" comment was an emotionless, "If
you say so". She is still not prepared to accept her error. Matt
& Tom, James & Tracy, Brian & Trish and Sandra &
Michelle all bring up a lack of interaction and Ann's behaviour on
the day as their reasons and Ann replies they've felt excluded.
Brendan hands Ann & Mark their red card and explains he would
have had to give it to them anyway due to Ann's actions on the boat
towards Tom.
As Ann & Mark are being interviewed about their departure, the
boat with the remaining coach trippers on board passes behind them
and Tom is heard to call for the return of the bag he lent them a
few days earlier. Ann's response is to throw the bag in the water.
A number of the contestants are then shown being interviewed and
speaking of her inappropriate behaviour. Ann says they had every
intention of handing back the bag that night. As the credits roll,
Ann and Mark are on a speedboat and pass the coach trippers' boat.
Ann waves the bag at the boat and then both of them smile and wave
to the boat.
Day 22 - Lake Plitvice
Brendan is the one who is struggling in the morning as he has
flu-like symptoms. However, Hannah & Katie are in danger of a
yellow card as they have apparently not come down from their room.
They do make it in time though.
Alexander & Paul are formally
introduced as the coach makes its way to Plitvice
Lakes National Park
, a world heritage site. The mood on the
coach has improved following Ann & Mark's departure. Arriving
at the lake, Matt tries to catch a fish with his hands whilst Tom
feeds them biscuits. He is told off for this, apparently by an
official from the area. It is against the rules to feed the fish,
let alone with biscuits.
The scenery seems to have calmed eveyone, but at lunch, the voting
alliance (or mafia as they have become known) make moves to recruit
Alex & Paul into their group. Following the break, Brendan
announces a painting competition in which each individual or couple
is to paint the scenery. The winning couple will receive a prize.
Tom yet again fails to take things seriously and simply does a hand
print before washing his hand in the lake, therefore polluting it
according to Brendan. As usual, Tom's effort leads to
disqualification. Hannah's painting earns her and Katie a night in
a luxury log cabin instead of the hotel. They are also allowed to
take a couple of their choice to share the experience and pick
Sandra & Michelle. Despite instructions from Brendan to wash
their painting tools in the toilet block, Matt & Tom use the
lake again, leading him to chastise them, albeit quite
gently.
At the vote, Alex & Paul receive one nomination, James &
Tracy receive two and Hannah & Katie end up with three and the
yellow card. The excuse the "mafia" (with Alex & Paul now
members) give is that they are spreading the vote to ensure
everyone stays on for the longest time possible. Brian & Trish
did not vote with the mafia on this occasion, their vote being to
Alex & Paul because Alex admitted to being a bad loser during
the painting task.
Matt (with Tom) speaks to the non-mafia members to explain the
reason for the voting but it's clear he convinces none of them.
James admits to camera that while they can't force votes to go the
way they want, they hope to force their wishes through by strength
of numbers.
The "luxury" cabin proves to be rather less luxurious than
expected, with no inside toilet (which instead is a fair walk away
in the dark) and minimal facilities. The four girls discuss the way
voting has been going and agree that votes should be given with a
valid reason behind them.
Day 23 - Zagreb
On reaching the coach in the morning, the girls share a joke with
Brendan about the wonderfully appointed cabin they have spent the
night in. They then keep the joke going by convincing the rest of
the coach party that they had a fabulous time.
The coach journeys
to Croatia's capital of Zagreb
where they are met by a local guide. Matt
makes a feeble attempt to chat her up which certainly does not
succeed. However, she does manage get them lost on the outskirts of
the city. Brendan takes the opportunity to introduce newcomers John
& Michael.
The coach soon finds its way to a traditional
Licitar biscuits which are gingerbread hearts given
as tokens of affection. Unsurprisingly, Tom doesn't listen to
instructions and starts to make a mess of his buscuit and his
fingers. Brendan's frustration leads to disqualification for Tom
(and Alexander) and sending them to the coach while everyone else
continues. They soon sneak back when they realise everyone is
having lunch.
The afternoon activity is a chance to tour a local square on
Segways. Tracy opts out. Aside from some
minor mishaps, everything is going well until Tom & Matt ingore
strict instructions to stay within the pedestrianised square and
cross the road to another area, followed by Hannah & Katie and
Michael & John. They are soon stopped when they reach gravel,
which the Segways struggle to work on. This action incurs the wrath
of the instructor and she berates them for it, especially as she is
responsible for their safety.
Voting time results in Matt & Tom receiving one vote, James
& Tracy receiving two votes and Sandra & Michelle receiving
four (all from the mafia members). James admits on camera that they
are spreading the votes around to keep he and Tracy and Matt &
Tom as safe as possible from a red card. They do not mention their
fellow mafia members, so it seems clear they are being used.
Day 24 - Heviz
Alex & Paul and John & Michael have decided the mafia is
not for them and they want to see it disbanded.
The Day's journey is
to the Hungarian spa town of Heviz
but Brendan has a surprise in store. There
will be a change in the day's vote and whoever receives the most
nominations will be given an automatic red card, regardless of
whether they already have a yellow. This leads Tracy to whisper to
James that they could be heading home that night. James confidently
replies, "No." Brian & Trish think there is a chance of Michael
& Paul heading home on their first day of eligibility, while
Hannah & Katie think they might be the ones going home. When
the coach stops, James talks to Alex to persuade he and Paul to
vote with them. But Alex instead tells Paul, Michael & John of
the plot and this strengthens their resolve to remove the
mafia.
The day's first activity is Hungarian horse riding. The group are
treated to a display of traditional horse riding skills before
getting to ride themselves. James struggles to even mount his first
horse whilst Michelle splits the bottom of her trousers when
falling off hers.
Following their exertions, the group then
go to Lake
Heviz
which is a spa, famous for its medicinal properties
due to its sulphur content and mildly
radioactive nature. Brian & Trish don't take part
because, according to Brendan, they don't want to swim in a "pond",
while James can't swim.
Ahead of the vote, Michael & John reveal to camera that they,
along with Alex & Paul, will be voting for James & Tracy
and hope that the rest of the votes will be spread around enough
that James & Tracy will be red-carded. In the end, Hannah &
Katie receive three votes (from Brian & Trish, Matt & Tom
and James & Tracy, all because they won't "play the game") and
James & Tracy receive four votes due to their tactics during
the trip. A lively discussion erupts about what did or did not
happen regarding voting pacts. But it is James & Tracy who
ultimately have to leave the coach trip.
Day 25 - Budapest
Breakfast for the contestants is spoiled by the smell of sulphur
permeating the spa hotel so everyone is glad to be leaving the
hotel, as are most to be continuing the trip without James &
Tracy. Matt & Tom feel they will be leaving soon as they have
lost their last major allies have departed.
Brendan
announces their destination will be Budapest
where they will begin with a lesson in making
goulash. The group are split into two
teams - boys and girls. John's father being a chef proves to be to
the boys' advantage as they win the task after Brendan's
blindfold tasting. Trish's goulash ends up looking
more like a meat soup, having far too much water in it. Lunch
unsurprisingly consists of goulash.
After lunch Brendan gives the trippers the option of shopping or
having a culture walk with Brendan himself. The local market proves
to be a disappointment however with the shoppers complaining of all
the markets being too similar and full of rubbish. Nobody bought
anything except Alex who bought a porcelain doll for his mother.
Brendan's group head to St.
Stephen's Basilica
with its 24 carat gold decorated dome.
Brendan
thought Tom & Matt actually appeared to be taking in the
culture but Tom admitted to camera that the only reason they took
the tour was a lack of money to go shopping. it's then on to the
Széchenyi Chain Bridge
over the River Danube
which prompts Brendan to start the group off on a rather poor
rendition of The Blue Danube
waltz.
Back at the hotel, it is time for the day's vote. Alex & Paul
get two votes whilst Tom & Matt receive four and the red card.
Brendan congratulates the boys for lasting 25 days on the coach
trip and they leave with more grace than James & Tracy managed
the night before. Brendan is quite emotional as he watches them
leave the hotel. A subtitle across the screen reads, "Tom &
Holly are now living together in Australia...... with Matt"
Day 26 - Vienna
Concerned about Alex's heavy drinking the night before, Brendan
knocks on Alex & Paul's door to ensure they are up on time.
However, the pair have already made their way to the hotel lobby,
albeit with Alex wearing sunglasses. Once on board, the coach party
are introduced to late night bar owners Delia & Jackie from
London who go on to explain they arrived at 5pm the previous night.
Having been restricted to their hotel room, they drank their way
through almost a litre of vodka and Bacardi each.
Vienna
is the destination for the day and the first
activity is a visit to the Haus der Musik (House of Music).
The definition of music is very broad and includes sounds such as a
dentist's drill and stirring a cup of liquid heard through tubes
and pipes in a wall. Most people enjoyed the experience but it
didn't impress the newcomers who thought it boring and a waste of
time when there was a
pub across the road. The
chance to become a virtual conductor provided some fun as the style
and rate at which a person moved an electronic conductor's baton
determined how fast the video of an orchestra played. Alex
displayed his piano skills, playing a segment of the
Coldplay song, Yellow.
At lunch, an argument ensues when first Alex & Paul and then
Delia & Jackie complain at not being allowed to drink vodka
instead of the glass of wine or beer that Coach Trip permits. Delia
& Jackie are particularly vocal in their response, prompting
Brian & Trish to leave the room while it continues.
Following a pleasant horse-drawn carriage ride, the next activity
is a dance lesson where everyone is taught the
Viennese Waltz, with mixed success.
Voting time leaves Alex & Paul and John & Michael on one
vote (due to his lack of respect for Brendan and his moaning), and
Brian & Trish on 4 votes, largely due to their longevity on the
trip and the fact they don't already have a yellow card.[It has to
be said that an alliance of newcomers is emerging who have
systematically removed all the former 'old alliance' and have their
sights set on Brian and Trish to complete this task. The new
alliance is made up of Micheal & John, Sandra & Michelle,
Katie & Hannah, and Alexander & Paul]
That night, Delia & Jackie incredibly decide to quit the trip
purely due to Brendan saying they couldn't drink their choice of
Vodka during the day. Jackie says she tried to persuade Delia to
give it one more day but with no success. They go out partying
before going home.
Day 27 - Cesky Krumlov
At breakfast, the trippers speculate as to whether they will be
going to a spa as Brendan has told them to bring their swimming
costumes. Brendan himself has only just found out about Delia &
Jaqui's departure. He has no problem with this and neither do the
rest of the coach party. Ian & Fiona join the coach. They met
on a cruise ship in Australia where Ian was a performer. As they
want to move to each other's country, Ian jokes that maybe they
should exchange visas or get married, but Fiona replies that Ian
being gay may be an obstacle to that.
Brendan
reveals that the day's destination is the medieval town of Cesky
Krumlov
where they will take part in white water rafting. Brendan and
his crew manage to go through one of the gates backwards, Alex
& Paul prove to be pretty useless in their boat and Ian manages
to step barefoot in dog excrement at the end of the activity.
Brendan comes to the rescue with some
wet
wipes supplied by Katie. Alex & Paul found the very tame
experience underwhelming.
Following lunch, the coach takes them to the
Budvar brewery where Brendan makes the mistake of
putting his finger in the sterilized water used in the brewing
process in order to taste it. It turns out he should have waited
for the tasting glass designed for the purpose. Brendan protests to
camera that his hands were clean as he had just been using the wet
wipes to clean Ian's foot, perhaps slightly missing the point.
After a taste of the beer, everyone heads back for the vote.
Michael & John receive one vote while Alex & Paul receive
five votes (mainly due to their apparent lack of enthusiasm during
the trip) and a yellow card.
Day 28 - Marienbad
After a game of "Is it a Beer or is it a Deer?" where the trippers
have to guess whether a name Brendan reads out is the name of a
beer or a deer. This was won by Ian & Fiona.
The coach arrives in
Marienbad
, famous for its carbon dioxide springs.
This pleases Sandra who has been hoping each day for a visit to a
spa. Stopping at their hotel to drop of their luggage, newcomers
Derith & Helen (a lawyer and account manager/weekend DJ) are
introduced to the trip.
At the springs, everyone tastes the spring water which doesn't go
down well. Following a viewing of the "singing fountain" which
performs in time to music, the trippers split into groups to
experience different treatments. However, Katie is unable to take
part as she has been stung by a wasp.
At the vote, John & Michael and Brian & Trish get one vote,
Alex & Paul get two votes and Ian & Fiona get three votes
and the yellow. This means all seven couples will remain on the
coach for the final day.
There is one final surprise as Michael comes down the hotel stares
to meet everyone, wearing a glittering silver dress, earrings and
high heels and with a towel perched on his head.
Day 29 - Prague
Brendan
reveals the final destination on this coach trip will be Prague
. The first activity is a visit to the
marionette museum where Alex manages to
break the foot off one of the puppets because he and Paul were
fighting with them. Another three marionettes slip off the handrail
as everyone is climbing the stairs to leave prompting Brendan to
think a quick getaway is wise.
For the final activity of the trip, the trippers take a ride round
Prague on a 1928 vintage tram. Brendan tells Alex off for ringing
the bell and Ian passes wind, filling the tram with a very
unpleasant odour which lingers for some time. He has already become
infamous on the coach for his propensity to belch.
As usual on Coach Trip, the final vote is to decide the winner of
the show. Unlike the first two series however, the winners are to
receive a holiday voucher rather than simply staying on in the
final destination for a couple of extra days. Alex & Paul and
Michael & John vote for each other and Hannah & Katie and
Sandra & Michelle also exchange votes. Ian & Fiona vote for
Hannah & Katie. Derith & Helen vote for Sandra &
Michelle so it is up to Brian & Trish to make the casting vote
which goes to Hannah & Katie, making them the winners of Coach
Trip Series 3.
Day 30 - The Last Day
As is
customary on Coach Trip, the final day involves Brendan sharing his
thoughts on the series, this time as the coach takes everyone to
Prague Ruzyně
Airport
. Brendan's favourite couple were Tom
& Matt. They 'played the game'. He enjoyed Michelle's exploits
on the horse and Anne's fits of laughter. As for least favourite
contestants, Brendan wasn't keen on Scott & Krishan's
over-familiarity and the behaviour of Ann (Ann & Mark) and
Delia. There is the traditional round of applause for the driver,
Paul. Brendan also recalls some of the funnier moments such as the
eel fishing and yodeling. His favourite action moment was riding
the Segway in Zagreb. As for the moments he'd rather forget, the
coach being stuck on the way to the hotel, the miniature beach and
the rough ferry crossing topped his list. The rise and fall of the
'coach mafia' is highlighted during a review of the voting.
Finally, Brendan bids farewell to the coach trippers and Paul
before walking off into the airport terminal.
Commissioning of Series 4
The following announcement was posted on the Channel 4 website on
30 June 2009:
Tuesday 30 June 2009
If you would like the chance to join Tour Guide Brendan onboard an
exciting European adventure and explore some of Europe's finest
cities and sights, then get in touch now.
We are looking for pairs of travel buddies of all ages to join the
trip - couples, friends, relations or colleagues; any kind of
relationship is fine.
For more details and an application form please contact:
coachtrip@12yard.com
Please note all applicants must be 18 or over at the start of
September 2009.
This would lead to the assumption that the 4th series will begin
shooting in September with a potential screening in the first
quarter of 2010 as this was the original plan for Series 3 which
then ended up being held back until the last week of May, instead
of January, 2009. Instead of having the standard thirty episode,
six week format, Channel 4 have decided to exend it to a fifty
epiosede, ten week format. The trip will take in 50 cities,
including Istanbul, Greece, Sicily and Malta.
