John Colin White (born December 12, 1977) is a professional ice hockey player with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League.

Playing career

Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotiamarker, White was drafted 49th overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and has been a familiar face on the blue line of the New Jersey Devils since he came up from Albany late in the 1999–00 season to help the Devils win the 2000 Stanley Cup, he also helped the Devils win another cup in 2003.

White is a very physical defenceman, often leading the Devils in penalty minutes. He is also a defensive defenceman, and has never put up big offensive numbers. However, he has proved to be reliable and has become even more heavily relied on after the loss of Scott Stevens to retirement and Scott Niedermayer to free agency after the 2003–004 season.

During the 2007–08 pre-season, White suffered a serious eye injury. During a team practice on September 19, "White was defending against two-on-one rushes when John Madden gave rookie Nicklas Bergfors the puck for a shot that deflected off White's stick and hit him in the nose and near the right eye." White was able to return to the lineup on November 21st to play in the Devil's 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite still suffering from some blurred vision in his right eye, he was able to play over 17 minutes, blocked 2 shots, and was credited with six of the Devil's fifteen hits. White quickly returned to his regular spot in the Devils line-up. During the 2008-09 season White played a total 71 games, finishing the season with one goal, 17 assists and a +18 rating.
