The Comedy Cellar is a famous comedy club in Manhattanmarker, where many top New York comedians perform. It is located in the heart of Greenwich Villagemarker on 117 Macdougal Street between West 3rd Street and Minetta Lane.

The Comedy Cellar, like The Comedy Storemarker, uses a showcase format, as opposed to a headline format like most clubs. A show will consist of between five and seven comics performing sets of roughly 20 minutes each. This format, coupled with the small capacity of the club (less than 100 people) makes the Comedy Cellar an appealing format for comedians to test and refine new material before going on the road. This makes the club an important fixture for many road comics that live in New York, and many top acts will perform, despite the relatively low pay. This also keeps the price of admission is low, between $10 and $18 depending on the day of the week, since comedians do not take a percentage of ticket sales.

Regular performers there are some of the best stand-ups performing, including Tough Crowd host Colin Quinn, Opie and Anthony co-host Jim Norton, Greg Giraldo, Mitch Fatel, SNL star Darrell Hammond, Insomniac with Dave Attell star Dave Attell, Nick DiPaolo, Rich Vos, and radio host Marc Maron. Also, some rising stars in comedy frequently perform, including Dov Davidoff, Robert Kelly, Sherrod Small, Keith Robinson, Gregg Rogell, and Ben Bailey.

Each week consists of two shows a night on Sunday through Thursday, three shows each Friday, and four shows on Saturday. The Cellar is located under and connected to the Olive Tree Cafe, where many of the comedians hang out after performing.

Also, some of the famous stars in stand-up occasionally stop by unannounced to try new material, including Dave Chappelle, Ray Romano, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Robin Williams. The New York Post regularly rates the Cellar as the best comedy club in New York. Musician John Mayer can also be seen dabbling in stand-up here occasionally.

Much of Jerry Seinfeld's 2002 documentary Comedian was filmed at the club, and it also can be seen in a 2006 Pepsi commercial starring SNL star Jimmy Fallon.
