Cyril Bentham Falls CBE (1888 -
1971) was a
military historian
noted for hiswork on the
First World
War.
He was born in Dublin
.
Cyril Falls was military officer, historian, and writer.
He was the
Chichele
Professor of Military History at All
Souls
, Oxford University
from 1946 to 1953.
He served in
World War I reaching the
rank of Captain in the
British Army. He
was on the General Staff for the
36th Division and
62nd Division, He received
the French
Croix de Guerre.
After the war he helped write several volumes of the British
official
History of the
Great War. Later he wrote both specialist detailed
histories as well as histories intended for the normal reader. He
was an expert on the history of World War I.
