Daingerfield is a city in Morris Countymarker, Texasmarker, United Statesmarker. The population was 2,517 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Morris Countymarker .

Ernest Wallace (1906-1985), historian of the South Texas Plains, the Comanche Indians, and the State of Texas, was born in Daingerfield.

Geography

Daingerfield is located at (33.030721, -94.724451) .

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,517 people, 957 households, and 694 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,043.0 people per square mile (403.2/km²). There were 1,119 housing units at an average density of 463.7/sq mi (179.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 0.46% White, 96.14% African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 3.81% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.32% of the population. These demographics are obviously wrong someone needs to fix this. You're right I don't think there is that many white people in Daingerfield

There were 957 households out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% were married couples living together, 19.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% were non-families. 25.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the town the population was spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 84.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $28,333, and the median income for a family was $31,625. Males had a median income of $31,154 versus $19,196 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,689. About 20.8% of families and 23.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 35.1% of those under age 18 and 11.1% of those age 65 or over.

Education

Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District is a public school district based in Daingerfield, Texasmarker (USAmarker).

Located in Morris Countymarker, a small portion of the district extends into Titus Countymarker.

The district has five schools - four in Daingerfield and one in Lone Starmarker.

  • Daingerfield High (Daingerfield; Grades 9-12)
    • Daingerfield has won the 1983 and 1985 Class AAA state football championships and the 1968 and 2008 Class AA state football championships.
    • The 1983 team was among the most dominant in Texas history. The team scored 631 points while giving up only 8 the entire season. Of the 16 games won (the first Texas high school to win 16 games in a season), 14 were shutouts including the final 13 (the final seven of the regular season and all six playoff games, the only team in Texas high school football history to accomplish the latter feat).
