David Gold (born 15 January 1937) in Stepneymarker, East Londonmarker is an Englishmarker businessman.

Businesses

Gold owns Gold Group International (GGI), the parent company of the retailer Ann Summers, lingerie chain Knickerbox, and owned pornographic magazine company Gold Star, printing and distribution businesses and until 2006, corporate air service Gold Air International. GGI used to be jointly owned by David and his brother Ralph, until David bought out Ralph's share in 2008.

The brothers in 2007 sold their share in Sport Newspapers, following falling sales and profits. He has also sold his charter airline, Gold Air. His daughter Jacqueline Gold is chief executive of Ann Summers and Knickerbox Ltd.

Football clubs

Gold is the former chairman of Birmingham City (He is not to be confused with David Sullivan, who is chairman of the club's parent company.) In 2007 the Gold brothers were believed to be in the process of selling their share in Birmingham City which followed Birmingham's return from relegation and lower than expected profits. After the club were relegated once again to the Championship in May 2008, Gold was quoted as saying he was considering stepping down from the joint head of the board of Birmingham City.

In May 2005, David Gold bought the second FA Cup trophy at auction for £420,000 (£478,400 after fees), saying he wanted to prevent it being bought by overseas buyers.

It has been widely speculated in the press that Gold could be interested in buying West Ham United after agreeing to sell Birmingham City to multi-millionaire Carson Yeung. Gold was a youth player at the Hammers and was offered an apprenticeship but was ordered by his father to finish his apprenticehsip as a bricklayer. He also once owned 30% of the club with his business partner Sullivan during the 1980's. More fuel to the speculation was added when Gold himself refused to rule out a takeover by saying "Not surprising...you can understand how difficult it is for me, I'm sure, to talk about this".
