Dhampur is a city and a municipal board in Bijnor districtmarker in the state of Uttar Pradeshmarker, Indiamarker.

Dhampur is located at . It has an average elevation of 216 metres (708 feet).

Famous religious places

Some of the temples are Kaliawala, Sai Dham (afar 5km), Maa Durga, Bada Shiv, Shiv, Thakurdwara, Hori Maharaj (in Memory of Late Shri Hori Maharaj Ji, a Hindu activist, Baba Charandas Balaji Temple and Gaddi Panap Das ji Maharaj. Pilgrims come to these places, including Jama Masjid, Pahari Darwaza Masjid, Holy Eid Gaah, Masjid Pir Shah(Ek Minara Masjid), Masjid Maniharan, Masjid Kaharan and Sabirwali Masjid. Gurudwara Shri Singh Sabha Punjabi colony in Dhampur is a well accepted holy Gurudwarain. Sikhs around Dhampur came to Prayers at Bijnor and other religious Karaz.

The neighboring villages are Jaitra, Naurangabad, Purana Dhampur, Suhagpur, Bholarampur, Alavalpur, Mohammadpur Sultan and Habibwala. This is associated with Daaku Sultana, a nineteenth century dacoit who was a follower of Indian freedom movement, but called ' dacoit' by the British because he destroyed their stations, arms, ammunition and treasury.

Society workers live here. The society office is also in this complex. A hostel & farms are opposite the society. The office & staff quarters were the working place of the late Rani Phool Kumari.Teachers colony,Shiv Nagar,New HINDU colony is also there.and Mohra Village is important near of Dhampur

Master Plan:2004-2006

H.H. Governor Of Uttar Pradesh has the Dhampur Maha Yojna (Master Plan) 2004-2021. On 24 June 2006, Dhampur will be a well planned and typical organized city of Uttar Pradesh. A by-Pass and public expediencies are proposed. The S.D.M. Dhampur is the authority for this planning.

History

The Moghuls were defeated by Rohillas at Dhampur in 1750.

In 1805, Dhampur was sacked by Pindaris.

Dhampur had 12,046 inhabitants in 1941.

Sh Kishan Singh,Dr. Ameeri Singh and Ch. Kulamani Singh Ji were famous freedom fighters from Dhampur. Sh Vaidya Baburam Katyayan Jhabbawale of Shriram Aushdhalaya, Sh Vishwambhar Nath Maheshwari (known as Mahashayji), Ch. Shivdayal Singh, Sri. Chandulal Jain, Bankeylal Garg and Sh jagdesh chand goel , Sri Genda Singh, were also prominent freedom fighters.(edit by hari om goel)

Economy

One of the largest sugar producers in India, Dhampur Sugar mills, is located here. Set up in 1933, Dhampur Sugar mills is a publicly listed sugar company, which produces the Dhampure brand of sugar products.DSM is now corporate partner with Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Ltd.Dhampur's main economy is based on agriculture, mainly sugarcane, wheat, and paddy. Hand-woven textile items produced by the weavers living in surrounding areas are known for their utility and designs. The State Govt. set up an Handloom Intensive Development Project at Dhampur and several production centres in and around with its Office building having headquarters at Kanpur.

Demographics

 India census, Dhampur had a population of 46,855. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Dhampur has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 68% and female literacy is 60%. In Dhampur, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The educational institutions in Dhampur include SHRI GURU RAM RAI PUBLIC SCHOOL, SHRI RAM PUBLIC SCHOOL`JAITRA,Ramgopal Ramchandra Saraswati Vidhya Mandir, K.M. Inter College is the oldest Intermediate School Of Dhampur, Durga Public School, Indian Public School, Pushpa Niketan,viswa bharti public school, Priyanka Modern Public School, St. Mary's Convent School.Three degree colleges are in Dhampur: R.S.M. (PG) College, S.B.D. College and Dhampur Degree College(only collage for B.Com education). Hari Singh ji Chauhan founded R.S.M. Inter college, now known as R.S.M.(Pg.) College Dhampur and still known as the Madan Mohan Malviya of the area.

RSM degree college is the only agricultural college of Rohailkhand University. The statistician Ravindra Khattree also studied at this place, then known as RSM Inter College.

Disha Institute of Science and Technology for management and science courses is located here; it is affiliated with UPTU, Lucknow,mjp barailly.
