Dibrugarh University was set
up in 1965 under the provisions of the Dibrugarh University Act,
1965 enacted by the Assam
Legislative
Assembly. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating university with
limited residential facilities.
The university is situated at Rajabheta at a
distance of about five kilometers to the South of the premier town
of Dibrugarh
in the easternmost corner of Assam
as well as
India
.
Dibrugarh, a commercially and industrially advanced town in the
entire north-eastern region also enjoys a unique place in the
fields of Art, Literature and Culture. The
Dibrugarh district is well known for its
vast treasure of minerals (including oil and natural gas and coal),
flora and fauna and largest concentration of tea plantation. The
diverse tribes with their distinct dialects, customs, traditions
and culture also make this area a variable paradise for the study
of Anthropology and Sociology besides art and Culture.
The Dibrugarh University Campus is well linked by roads, rails, air
and water ways. The National Highway No. 37 passes through the
University Campus. The territorial jurisdiction of Dibrugarh
University covers seven districts of Upper Assam, viz., Dibrugarh,
Tinsukia, Sibsagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur. It has
140 affiliated colleges.
The university Campus extends over an area of more than of which
are still covered under tea plantation.
It is accredited by the
National
Assessment and Accreditation Council, with a B grade. Dibrugarh
University is a member of the
Association of Indian
Universities (AIU) and the
Association of
Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
The Degrees conferred
by this university are recognised by all the universities in
India
and abroad on reciprocal basis.From the academic
session of 2009-10 the University changed it's academic system from
'Semester system' to 'Choice Based Credit System'.
On 31 March 2009 and 19 September 2009 DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE of
the University organised workshops for training the college
teachers for project preparation of the students in B.Com part
III.
On November 3,2009 the DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE celebrated it's
foundation day.It was founded on the day in the year
1978.Dr.(Prof)A.R.M.Rehman was felicitated on this day as he is one
of the founder members of this department.On the same day the
second edition of the alumni meet of this department, SAMPARK 2009
took place which was graced by the students from the first batch
till the latest one. It is intresting to note that the first
edition of the alumni meet of this department SAMPARK 2006 was the
first alumni meet of any kind in the entire university.
Miss Rupanjali Kaushik a student of M.Com 1st semester (Dept. of
Commerce) won the prestigious Voice of Dibrugarh University (Voice
of DU) held on 7th and 8th of November 2009 beating 26 other
competitors.
The Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University, is a
rising management school and is part of Dibrugarh University. It
started functioning on
February 3,
2003. It is currently running five programmes
of study - Ph. D., MBA (FT), MBA (PT), PGDTM and BBA.
