Earby is a small town and civil parish within the Pendlemarker district of Lancashiremarker, Englandmarker. It is north of Colnemarker, from Skiptonmarker, and from Burnleymarker. The parish of Earby had a population of 4,348 recorded in the 2001 census,

Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, from 1909 to 1974, Earby formed an urban district. Since 1974 Earby has been in the West Cravenmarker area of Pendle and now has a Parish Council as part of the West Craven Area Committee on Pendle Borough Council.

Other smaller nearby towns include Thornton in Cravenmarker and Sough, Lancashiremarker.

Earby also had its own railway stationmarker, but it was closed in 1970. The station was a major interchange with the small branch off to Barnoldswickmarker.

Local media

Earby is served by TV from both Leeds and Manchester; ITV (Yorkshire Television) and BBC Northmarker are both transmitted from the TV mast at East Marton, 3 miles north of Earby. BBC North West and ITV (Granada Television) are both received directly from the main Winter Hillmarker transmitter. Radio reception is restricted in the town. The BBC has a low-power relay that overlooks Earby and has the four main BBC national FM radio stations (Radio 1 to 4), but there is no local FM radio station in the area. Fresh Radio in Skiptonmarker claims to cover the area on MW 1413 kHz.

The local press is published twice weekly; the Barnoldswick and Earby Times is published on Fridays and the Pendle Express is published on Tuesdays. Some of the Yorkshire press is circulated in the area - due to the geographical anomaly. The Craven Herald & Pioneer and Yorkshire Post newspapers are prominent.
