(1.1 mi²), all land.
Demographics
As of the
census of 2000, there were 9,538
people, 3,321 households, and 2,480 families residing in the CDP.
The
population density was
3,317.7/km² (8,559.0/mi²). There were 3,382 housing units at an
average density of 1,176.4/km² (3,034.9/mi²). The racial makeup of
the CDP was 75.29%

There were 3,321 households out of which 36.7% had children under

married couples living together, 12.0% had a female
householder with no husband present, and 25.3% were non-families.
19.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.6% had
someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average
household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.32.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age
of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to
64, and 12.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was
35 years. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every
100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $51,440, and the
median income for a family was $59,063. Males had a median income
of $46,395 versus $31,670 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $20,613.
About 4.3% of families and 5.8% of the population were below the
poverty line, including 2.7% of those
under age 18 and 10.3% of those age 65 or over.

Assembly District, represented by

Charles M. Calderon. Federally, East La Mirada is
located in
California's 39th
congressional district, which has a

represented by Democrat
Linda
Sánchez.
