Ferrol Diario was a
Galician
newspaper
founded in Ferrol
sometime in
the late 1950s and very early 1960s [379445]
but it didn't make it through the turbulent and difficult years of
the early 1980s, [379446] which were marked with a huge recession in
the shipbuilding sector affecting Ferrol considerably.
The 1980s
Ferrol suffered a terrible impact, losing over 40% of the local
industries during a very controversial time marked by the advent of
a new political system in Spain
and the
arrival of democracy [379447]. Ultimately, Ferrol lost the
title of
El Ferrol del Caudillo and its most important
newspaper Ferrol Diario.
It should be noted too, in these lines that
about the same time El Correo
Gallego[379448], a well-established Ferrol newspaper, and one
of the oldest newspapers in the Iberian Peninsula
was moved to the capital of Galicia
when the newly created Galician Government was created in the
early 1980s.
