Enterprise plc is one of the UK'smarker leading support services companies. It is based in Leylandmarker in Lancashiremarker, Englandmarker. Its core markets are local authorities and utility sectors.

History

The Company was established in 2000 by way of a merger between Lancashire Enterprises (founded in 1983) and ARM Services (founded in 1964).

In 2007 a management buyout backed by the 3i investment group took place and the group was removed from the London Stock Exchange. On September 21 2007 the company acquired the entire stock of Accord Plc making it one of the UK's leading companies providing outsourced or partnered services to both the local authority and utilities markets.

Operations

Public sector

The public sector business is focused on the delivery of local authority services through partnership, joint venture arrangements and traditional term contracts. It has relationships with 100 local authorities.

The company operate throughout the UK with over 50 offices. The Head office is in Leylandmarker in Lancashiremarker and key offices are also located in Londonmarker, Glasgowmarker, Cardiffmarker, Belfastmarker, Dublinmarker and Brusselsmarker.

The company has two separate joint ventures with Carillion for work with the Ministry of Defence.

Enterprise has entered into a full joint venture company with Liverpoolmarker City Council, 'Enterprise – Liverpool', which delivers the full range of street based and housing maintenance services throughout the City.

Utilities

Enterprise operates as a service support partner to blue chip companies such as BT, Severn Trent and Thames Water offering both direct services and consultancy:

Water – Enterprise offers a wide range of services for both the clean and dirty water networks.

Telecommunications – The company manages small customer provision and repair works, through to extensive network renewal and investment schemes.

Electricity – The company provides network maintenance services throughout the electricity distribution industry.

Gas – National Grid Transco partners with Enterprise for mains and service replacements.

Transport

Through the acquisition of Accord Plc, the company gained the rights to run the Uni-link bus services under contract to the University of Southamptonmarker. The bus company was renamed to Enterprise . However, the company lost the contract in 2008 to Bluestar who began operating it from September 2008.
