Eve Merriam born Eva
Moskovitz in Philadelphia
in 19 July 1916 died in
11 April 1992 in Manhattan
from cancer.
Merriam's first book was the 1946
Family Circle that won
the
Yale Younger Poets
Prize.
Her book
Inner City Mother Goose was described as the most
banned book of the time.
There was a Broadway
musical based on it called Inner
City. In 1981 she won the
NCTE
Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children.
She was married for a time to writer
Leonard C. Lewin, as well as to the screenwriter
Waldo Salt and was actress
Jennifer Salt's stepmother.
