Fresh Radio is a local radio station broadcasting to the Yorkshire Dalesmarker in northern Englandmarker on two medium wave (AM) frequencies and three FM frequencies. It can also be heard online via the Fresh Radio website.

Transmission

Two of the three AM frequencies were originally to be switched off by April 2007 and replaced by FM transmitters in Skipton, Ilkley, Pateley Bridge, Settle, Richmond and Grassington. The FM transmitter for Richmond commenced broadcasts on February 11 2007 on 102.6FM, however the rollout for Grassington has been delayed, and AM is still being broadcast in Richmond, alongside the FM frequency.

The Ilkley transmitter has also since began broadcasting on 107.1FM as of February 18 2007.

The station's main studio base is at Broughton Hall near Skiptonmarker. Fresh Radio currently broadcasts to an area of approximately to an adult population of around 200,000 people.

Its coverage area is, broadly, bounded by the M6 motorway to the West, the A1 to the East, the A66 to the North and the towns of Skipton, Keighley and Ilkley to the South.

DAB

On Friday 14 September, it was announced that the station will launch on DAB across North Yorkshire [247709].In September 2007 MuxCo applied a local DAB Digital Radio licence, to cover the North Yorkshire area. MuxCo was awarded the licence in December 2007 and aims to commence broadcasting in mid-2009. The map of the area that will be transmitted [247710].

Content

Content features a variety of music, featuring contemporary recording artists from the sixties to the present day, together with news (local and national), weather, travel, quizzes and local information. The Super Quiz which is on between 12.00 to 13.00 every weekend hosted by Jeremy Gartland.

History

Fresh Radio was launched 4 May 1997 by James Wilson and Chris Parkin, as Yorkshire Dales Radio with the strapline "May the fourth be with you". The station was re-launched in 1999 as Fresh AM, with a slight change of name two years later to Fresh Radio pending the introduction of FM frequencies.

Fresh Radio is owned and operated by Utopia Broadcasting Limited, a privately owned media company.

Fresh Radio was named "Yorkshire and The North East Radio Station Of The Year" in 2004, and again in 2006, by the Radio Academy.
