Gennevilliers is a commune in the north-western suburbs of Parismarker, Francemarker. It is located . (5.7 miles) from the center of Paris.


On 9 April 1929, one-fifth of the territory of Gennevilliers was detached and became the commune of Villeneuve-la-Garenne.


Gennevilliers is the site of the main river port of Paris on the Seinemarker river.


Gennevilliers is served by Gabriel Péri – Asnières – Gennevilliersmarker station on Paris Métro line 13. This station is located at the border between the commune of Gennevilliers and the commune of Asnières-sur-Seine, on the Asnières side of the border.

Gennevilliers is also served by two stations on Paris RER line C: Les Grésillonsmarker and Gennevilliersmarker.


Gennevilliers was the birthplace of the actress Isabelle Adjani, and the French judoka Pascal Tayot, who won a silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics.It is also the birthplace of pole vault bronze medalist and former record holder Thierry Vigneron.

Gennevilliers is twinned with the town of Birkenheadmarker on the Wirral Peninsulamarker in Merseyside UKmarker and with the town of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyskimarker in Polandmarker. In another Merseyside connection, Gennevilliers is the home town of Liverpool footballer David Ngog, famous for his goal against Manchester United on 25 October 2009.
