The
Geological Exploration of the Fortieth
Parallel was a geological survey under the directorship of
Clarence King established in
1867 by the US Congress, more commonly known as the
Fortieth Parallel Survey.
The survey conducted
six years of field work exploring area along the fortieth parallel north from western
Nevada
to eastern Wyoming
. The
results of the survey were published in eight volumes of the
Fortieth Parallel Survey.
