George Evan Howell (September 21, 1905 - January
18, 1980) was a

, Howell
attended the public schools at Villa Grove, Illinois
.He graduated from the University of
Illinois College of Commerce and Business
Administration
at Urbana in 1927 and from the College of
Law
in 1930.He taught school in McHenry County,
Illinois, in 1927 and 1928.
He served as member of the faculty of the
College of Commerce, University of Illinois
from 1928 to 1930.He was
admitted to the
bar in 1930 and commenced practice in Springfield, Ill,.He
became a member of the Officers' Reserve Corps in 1933.Referee in
bankruptcy, United States District Court, southern division of
Illinois from 1937 to 1941.
Howell was elected as a
Republican to the
Seventy-seventh and to the three
succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1941, until his
resignation on October 5, 1947.He served as judge of the
United States Court of Claims
from October 6, 1947, until his resignation on September 30,
1953.He served as chairman of the Illinois Toll Highway Commission
1953-1955.He resumed the practice of law.
Resided in Largo, Florida
, until his death in Clearwater, Florida
, January 18, 1980.Cremated.
