Austin–Round Rock is a five-county metropolitan area in Central Texas that contains two principal cities: Austinmarker and Round Rockmarker. As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 1,249,763 (though a July 1, 2008 estimate placed the population at 1,652,602).

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,249,763 people, 471,855 households, and 295,781 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 72.49% White, 7.96% African American, 0.57% Native American, 3.52% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 12.75% from other races, and 2.64% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 26.23% of the population.

The median income for a household in the MSA was $46,512 and the median income for a family was $54,361. Males had a median income of $35,612 versus $27,095 for females. The per capita income for the MSA was $20,721.
