Hockey Club Davos is a professional Swiss ice hockey club based in Davos, Switzerlandmarker. Davos play in the Swiss Nationalliga A, which is ranked as Europe's sixth best ice hockey league. The team is usually a strong force in the league and often bolster their roster with Swiss national team players and players who once played for National Hockey League teams. HC Davos also hosts the annual Spengler Cup tournament, which is a purely invitational competition, since 1923.

History

HC Davos was founded in 1921 and was quite successful, dominating the Eastern Swiss championship for over three decades from 1926 to 1960. The team was, however, relegated into League 1 in 1990, one of the lowest points in its history. After a new beginning, the club moved into the Nationalliga B, and two years later returned to the top flight, Nationalliga A. Since then, Davos has been among the best teams in the league, with recent league successes in 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2009.

In 1923, Davos presented the first Spengler Cup. As the local team, Davos plays in this tournament as well, although they are usually strengthened by players from Class A clubs.
