Haven of Peace Academy (HOPAC), Dar es Salaam
is a Christian International School
situated in Dar-es-Salaam
, Tanzania, East Africa with 315 students from Kindergarten
to Grade 12. HOPAC brings together a rich blend of students
from 34 different countries and a variety of religious backgrounds
including
Christian,
Muslim and
Hindu. While the
majority of students come from families of missionaries and the
international business and non-profit community, one third are
Tanzanian.
HOPAC was founded in 1994 by missionaries from several
organizations who saw the need for quality, affordable Christian
education for their children. The school's mission is to "to
provide an excellent, Christ-centered, international education that
meets western academic standards and equips students to live out a
biblical worldview in all areas of life to the glory of God."
In 2001 the school moved to its current campus which consists of
and overlooks the Indian Ocean on the north side of Dar es Salaam.
Teachers serve as unpaid volunteers and are sent by various
Christian mission organizations and churches.
HOPAC uses the IGCSE and AS/A level system from
CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) with exams
taken May/June for Grades 10, 11 and 12. The subjects offered for
IGCSE include History, Geography, Mathematics, Bible, English
(language and literature),German, French, Biology, Chemistry and
Physics. The subjects offered for the AS/A Level course include
History, Geography, Mathematics, English Literature, General Paper,
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies and Psychology.
Additionally the school offers extra curricular activities such as
Music, P.E, Photography, Art, Service Learning, Drama and Wood work
