Heijō-kyō (平城京, also Heizei-kyō, sometimes Nara no miyako), was the capital city of Japanmarker during most of the time (710-740 and 745-784) of Nara period (710-794). The Palace sitemarker is a listed UNESCO World Heritage together with other places in the city of Nara.

The capital was modeled after Chang'anmarker, the capital of Tang Dynasty Chinamarker, although Heijō-kyō lacked walls.
