This article is about the current administrative entity called Heves county. For the historical county see Heves marker. For the town see Hevesmarker.

Heves county lies in northern Hungarymarker. It lies between the right bank of the river Tisza and the Mátramarker and Bükkmarker mountains. It shares borders with the Hungarian counties Pestmarker, Nógrádmarker, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplénmarker and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnokmarker. The capital of Heves county is Egermarker.

Geography

Heves county is a geographically diverse area; its northern part is mountainous (the Mátramarker and Bükkmarker are the two highest mountain ranges in Hungary), while at south it includes a part of the Great Hungarian Plain. From south it's bordered by Lake Tiszamarker, the largest artificial lake in Hungary. The average temperature is between 8 and 10 °C (higher on the southern parts of the county).
