ITV Tyne Tees & Border is a non-franchse
ITV regional station covering the North of
England/Scottish Borders and incorporating the former
ITV Tyne Tees and
ITV Border regions. The new service was
launched on Wednesday 25 February 2009, shortly after the
broadcasting regulator OFCOM gave
ITV plc
the go-ahead to merge the two regions.
The main regional news programmes are
North East Tonight (covering the
former Tyne Tees region) and
Lookaround (covering the former Border
region) with other bulletins branded
Tyne Tees & Border
News (covering news stories from both Tyne Tees and Border).
The Tyne Tees regional political programme
Around the
House continues on the new service, incorporating the Border
region.
The pan-region covered the Isle of Man
until Thursday 16 July 2009 when ITV Granada took over coverage of the
Crown dependency.
As part of
the merger, six reporters in the Border region were reassigned as
district correspondents, working from Carlisle
, Selkirk
, Whitehaven
, Kendal
, Dumfries
and Edinburgh
. Newsrooms in Carlisle and Edinburgh are
retained while other district reporters work from home.
In the
Tyne Tees region, smaller newsrooms continue to be based in
Sunderland, York
and Billingham
as well as London
.
The ITV Tyne Tees & Border regional director is Graeme Thompson
with Catherine Houlihan as Head of News.
