Background

The song leaked early into the internet just under the title "Let's Chill". It was officially released to Radio Disney to support the third season of Hannah Montana. And on June 30, 2009, "Ice Cream Freeze" and its video became digitally available to the iTunes Store as part of the Radio Disney iTunes Pass in Week # 2, being the only single to be released before the release of the album. On "Ice Cream Freeze (Let's Chill)", Cyrus sings about having fun and partying with the lyrics: "did I hear someone say party, we're just gettin' started". Like "Hoedown Throwdown", it has a choreographed dance on the chorus lines.

Promotion and critical reception

The single received airplay on Radio Disney and a repeatedly aired video on Disney Channel. It was also performed live on October 10, 2008 (which is the source to the music video). In Hannah Montana, "Ice Cream Freeze (Let's Chill)" was first introduced on the episode, "Cheat It". Plus it was also mentioned and used as background music for Hannah Montana: Sing Whaaat??.

An extended play for this single released on iTunes on September 7, 2009. It included an album version, instrumental, and a remix by Kara DioGuardi and Smidi "Smith".

Critics received "Ice Cream Freeze (Let's Chill)" negatively. Allmusic noted the song was "extremely similar" to Cyrus's own "Hoedown Throwdown". About.com also said the song was too close to "Hoedown Throwdown" by mentioning: "the silly dance craze tune "Ice Cream Freeze (Let's Chill)," a tune as awkwardly goofy as Hannah Montana: The Movie Soundtrack's Hoedown Throwdown".

The video for the "Ice Cream Freeze", which premiered on Disney Channel the same day as the song did on Radio Disney, May 22, 2009, is captured from a live performance that took place in Irvine, Californiamarker on October 10, 2008.
