Indre is a department in the center of Francemarker named after the Indre Rivermarker. The inhabitants of the department are called Indriens.

History

Indre is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from part of the former province of Berry.

Geography

Indre is part of the current region of Centre marker and is surrounded by the departments of Indre-et-Loiremarker, Loir-et-Chermarker, Chermarker, Creusemarker, and Viennemarker.

The President of the General Council is Louis Pinton of the Union for a Popular Movement.
