Inpop Records is an
independent contemporary
Christian music record label based
in Franklin,
Tennessee
, USA
. It was launched in July
1999 by
Australians
Peter Furler and
Wes Campbell. The name was derived from the
idea of wanting to highlight the talents of
international
pop artists, though they have signed an equal number of
American artists. Artists on Inpop's roster include
Newsboys,
Mat Kearney,
Everyday Sunday, and
Superchick.
History
When
Newsboys lead singer
Peter Furler and the band's manager
Wes Campbell first came to the United States in
the 1980s, they had no intention of owning a record label. A decade
later, Furler decided he was tired of sharing his tour bus bunk
with hundreds of demos piled high, all given to him from artists he
met on tour. Deciding to do something about it, he and Campbell
launched Inpop Records in July 1999. Inpop's stated goal is to
discover the best artists around the world that understand the
grace of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and who also have something
new and unique to offer the world of Christian music.
"Traveling the globe, we've seen thousands of bands and artists. We
have a calling to give these musicians the same opportunity
Newsboys were given," says Furler.
Inpop artists
The Newsboys are one of Inpop's best-known artists. The group's
lead singer, Peter Furler, is a member of Bethel, and Campbell
doubles as the group's manager. At one point, the Newsboys
Web site included a
link where visitors could purchase
Biblical Foundations, a
Bible study workbook published by Broocks and Murrell. It is
popularly known as
"The
Purple Book". The link pointedly asks the question, "Have you
done The Purple Book?" The site also included a letter from Furler
describing how "doing The Purple Book" had changed him. A daily
teaching by Laffoon was also given prominent space. The Newsboys
began downplaying their Every Nation ties on their site in the
winter of 2005, though there is still a link to Laffoon's teachings
there.
Previous Inpop artists
Inpop Records also managed the annual
Festival Con Dios national tour.
