Isulan is a 1st class municipality in the province of Sultan Kudaratmarker, Philippinesmarker. It is the provincial capital of the Province of Sultan Kudarat. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 73,129 people in 14,333 households.


Isulan is centrally located and is accessible to all neighboring towns not only within the Province of Sultan Kudarat Province but also in some municipalities of the Province of Maguindanao, South Cotabato and even that of Davao del Sur. It is bounded on the North by the Municipality of Esperanza, Northeast by the Municipality of Lambayong; on the East by Tacurong Municipality; on the South by the municipalities of Bagumbayan and Sen. Ninoy Aquino; on the Southeast by the municipality of Norala, South Cotabato; and on the West by the Municipalities of Lebak and Kalamansig. It has a total land area of 54,125 hectares.


The municipality of Isulan was created by virtue of Executive order No. 266 dated August 30, 1957 with the seat of government at Barangay Kalawag. However, it was only on September 15, 1957 that the municipal government officially functioned with the appointment of its first set of officials headed by Mayor Datu Suma Ampatuan who served as a Mayor until 1967. The bulk of Isulan's population is predominantly Christian coming from the Luzon and the Visayas. The Muslim population migrated from neighboring towns and provinces.

Local means of transportation is served by almost 3,000 motor tricycles known locally as just "motor". Transportations to its barangays and adjacent municipalities are served by Multicabs, Jeepneys, and D4D Vans. Husky Bus Company serves to City of-GenSan-Cotabato Route which passes the town of Esperanza and other town of ARMM areas. Public Utility Vans, Tacurong Bus liner also served routes to and from the cities of Davao, while Yellow bus line served for Koronadal and General Santos route.

Notable resident

Laarni Losada, the winner of Season 2's Pinoy Dream Academy, is from from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat. She graduated her elementary and secondary educations at Bambad National High School. Her family are local residents of Maremco, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.


It is in Isulan that the first mobile hospital is officially used under the administration of Gov. Pax Mangudadatu(now the Representative). Also, the Provincial Capitol of Sultan Kudarat holds the record of being the Biggest Capitol Building in terms of metric squares. The capitol is a four-storey building with a helipad and a tennis court for a rooftop.

Beside Capitol building will soon rise "The DOME". When done, it will be one of the biggest dome in the Philippines along with Araneta Coliseummarker (the Big Dome) in Cubao, Quezon City.
