Ivaylo Stoimenov Yordanov ( ) (born April 22, 1968 in Samokovmarker) is a former Bulgarianmarker footballer.

Known for his professional approach to the game, he played mainly as a striker.

Club career

Yordanov began his career at local PFC Rilski Sportist Samokov, moving to Lokomotiv GO in 1989.

In 1991-92, he joined Portuguese League Sporting Clube de Portugal, where he would play in a variety of positions (including central defender, due to injuries to teammates). Persistent injury problems and multiple sclerosis led to a 2001 retirement,still with the Lisbonmarker club (he was an important element in the side's league contest the previous year).

Upon retiring, Yordanov stayed connected with Sporting, in its youth teams.

International career

Yordanov was capped 50 times and scored three goals for the Bulgarian national team, including seven World Cup games, in the 1994 and 1998 editions. During the round-of-16 contest with Mexico (as Bulgaria prevailed in a penalty shootout) at the World Cup 1994, he discovered very well his versatile qualities, filling in at stopper role because of the titular centre-back Trifon Ivanov's suspension. Yordanov would also appear at Euro 1996.
